I see Andrea Pirlo has announced his retirement. Not being a great follower of football outside Celtic these days, I thought he had already. :coffee:

Some player.

Wonder if the huns know the final verse of 'God Save the Queen'?

'Lord grant that Marshal Wade
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring
May he sedition hush
And like a torrent rush
Rebellious Scots to crush
God save the Queen.'

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY face a fight to keep striker Gary Hooper.

The former Celtic star is a January target for Crystal Palace, West Brom and Brighton having scored eight times this season.

Seven of those goals have come in the last seven games and Hooper – who arrived from Norwich for £3million in January 2016 – would cost about £6m.

Hooper, 29, has grabbed 20 goals in 43 League starts for Wednesday who are currently 12th in the Championship.

He netted twice in the Owl’s 3-0 win against rivals Leeds earlier in the month.

Palace are in dire need of reinforcements after losing their seven Premier League games.

Hooper would be a welcome addition up front and could add the goal power needed to keep the Eagles up.

Roy Hodgson took over from the axed Frank de Boer but has yet to see any improvement in results.

West Brom are also on the hunt for a striker but have also been linked with a move for Benik Afobe.

Brighton could also make a move for Hooper, while a move for Newcastle outcast Aleksandar Mitrovic could be on the cards.

Not in a million years. And i liked Hooper.
But when he had bad games he was a passenger. Griffiths contributes when he isn't on top form, simply through work ethic.

I would have loved to have seen what Rodgers could've done with Hooper.

Sell him would be my guess.

If Hooper had a season like Griffiths has had, could anyone imagine him not agitating for a move down south? Couple that with playing second fiddle to Dembele and I don't think Hooper would be hanging around at all.

He was great when he was here, but if he came back and reached the same heights, he wouldn't hang around long.

It's great having players like Dembele, Wanyama, VVD etc, but the reality is they're only a good offer away from wanting out. In certain respects, the calibre of player a tier below; Griffiths, Gordon, Brown, Rogic etc are more valuable (practically rather than financially) to the club because they don't attract the same interest and hence more likely to stay and contribute long term.

No way we'd sign a 29 year old striker but good to see him back in form, seemed like he'd really lost it for a while. Apparently he really regretted leaving.
