Celtic 5 Astana 0

Keith Jackson at Celtic Park

As tightropes go, Celtic are walking the narrowest after this controversial play-off tie in a chase to join Europe's elite.

Sure, goals from Scott Sinclair (2), James Forrest and two OWN GOALS give Celtic a relative cushion before they have to brave the fires of Kazakhstan next Tuesday.

Brendan Rodgers may sit in his small office tonight and allow himself a small glass of red. But he might also be tempted to polish off the bottle when he realises the magnitude of the task when he flies through 37 time zones next week in a quest to reach UEFA's promised land.

Rodgers, and his players, know only too well that these type of cushions mean nothing in UEFA's Utopian land, and that is why the Irishman should be as guarded as those who protect Her Majesty at Buckingham Palace next week.

Yes, as the plane touches down you would forgive the former Liverpool boss for casting a few thoughts towards Rangers, who will stand to benefit from whatever happens to their old firm rivals in UEFA's cash-laden elite competition.

Should a miracle occur - and they do, as those of us who witnessed Walter Smith walk across the Clyde will testify - and Celtic qualify, then Pedro Caixinha will rub his red hands together and thank the spirit of William Struth for his intervention. 6 games against Europe's finest will sap the energy of Rodgers' men and leave a path clear for the Ibrox men to re-take their rightful place at the peak of the Scottish game.

Of course, it is more likely that Celtic will crash out of UEFA's pot of gold tourney, and this will be a gift from Walter for Pedro Caixinha and his assembled superstars.

Yes, Leigh Griffiths and co will be a bedraggled lot, bereft of hope and morale, ready to carry their collective crosses on the path to domestic oblivion.

Really Kenny Miller and company cannot lose out of this sorry state of affairs that Rodgers has created. And the Scottish game shall be all the better for it.

Plans for Aberdeen's new stadium and training facility. Looks very impressive but having been to a fair amount of grounds out in the middle of nowhere I'd be very wary. Unless you nail the access and the fan zone type stuff it can be a real slog if the team aren't successful.

Don't know the area but Kingsford seems to be about 7 miles from Aberdeen with one road in and out?
The new bypass will go past the new stadium. Away fans wont need to go near the city. Think its a bad idea personally. Milne will have flats up on Pittosrie pretty damn quick.

From STV:

There's good news for the rest of Scotland's top flight clubs as well. Should Celtic secure their place in the Champions League, the 11 other Premiership clubs will share a pot of €4.4m (£4m).

Divided between them, each side will receive €401,000 (£365,000) but this must be spent on youth development.

--

I hope the rest of the Scottish Fitba appreciate what we're bringing to the table!

I didn't know that was a stipulation, good to see that it is though.

Part 2 of the Kris Boyd interview with Simon Ferry is up. I actually think the big doofus comes across quite well. He talks about his SPL goal record, but how he knows he was nowhere near the level of Larsson.

Yeah he's good to listen to. Funny how post-match interviews and Jonathan Watson impressions can mould your opinion of someone, so I presumed he was thick as pig shampoo. I'd imagine footballers are more comfortable talking to other footballers.

Agreed, just watched it.

Liked when he said he was walking down the tunnel at a cup final and remarked "its f*ckin roastin, too hoat for fitba'" and Smith took him off at half time

Really? I thought they were brilliant. As far as player interviews go, Ferry's are the best I've seen.

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/neil-lennon-rangers-circus-must-10994407

Keith Jackson has lost the plot - he is condemning the police and the rangers fans for their behaviour against Neil Lennon.
He won't be getting a welcome in the lodge this week
But just because he may never join the diplomatic core it doesn’t mean..
that you can spell jackson it is Corps dear oh dear ..
