St. Pauli with a St. Mirren-esque comeback this year. Spent most of the year in the relegation mire, now up to 7th and safe.

Huge game tonight in the 2.Bundesliga with Braunschweig leading Union which would all but seal their playoff place.

Double take on this on UEFA site re last ever European game at Atletico Madrid's ground. In among memorable matches was this: Atlético 2-0 Celtic, 1973/74 European Cup semi-finals The goalless first leg is remembered as the battle of Glasgow for the fierce challenges meted out by both sides. The balance finally tipped Atleti's way when José Gárate broke the deadlock in the 77nd minute. Adelardo Rodríguez then sealed a first European Cup final appearance. Both sides? Not how I remember it. Fuds. uefa story Yep, only one guilty party over the 90 minutes - although we did manage to get in some "fierce challenges" at full time

A police sargeant has been arrested for raising the Flamengo flag instead of the State of Rio flag outside the police station in Copacabana. Flamengo had just won the state championships.
Pretty harsh.

reports from Brazil says that Real Madrid have bought the Brazilian wonderkid 16 year old Vinicius Junior for a transfer fee around 45m euro's with the kid getting 150k+ in wages a week. Deal will go though when he turns 18
the kid hasn't even played a senior match, but after the SouthAmerican u17 championships, Real though that they couldn't wait any longer before Barca would make a move for him If true that is disgusting all the more reason why wage caps should be introduced in football.

ABERDEEN are set to launch a shock swoop for Shaun Maloney.
SunSport understands Hull star Maloney is a target for Dons boss Derek McInnes as he seeks to bolster his squad.
McInnes looks set to lose Niall McGinn, Peter Pawlett and Ryan Jack at the end of the season.
That would leave the Dons boss short of midfield options, and he’s turned his attentions to experienced ex-Celtic and Scotland ace Maloney, 34.
Maloney has started just TWO games for Hull this season, and is a free agent next month.
Aberdeen tried to land him on loan in January, but the bid was rejected.
McInnes has already conceded defeat in his hopes of keeping McGinn, while skipper Jack is a target for MLS outfit Columbus Crew.
Maloney grew up in Aberdeen and could welcome a chance to end his career at Pittodrie.

With the Scotland and England just after the season finishes and the Europa League starting not long after, there won't be a summer drought of football. Anyone going on holiday may want to scope out bars to watch the footie.
When do Scottish sides play their first European matches this summer? Celtic, Aberdeen and Rangers have all booked their places in continental competition but it’s between St Johnstone and Hearts for the final Europa League spot.
Spoiler: click to toggle ByDarren Cooney 16:11, 8 MAY 2017Updated16:12, 8 MAY 2017 Our Premiership sides are in Europe so early again this summer the Germans won’t have had time to roll out their beach towels. On Sunday, Rangers made sure of their place in continental competition with a late winner at Partick Thistle. The Ibrox club joined Aberdeen in the Europa League but there’s still one place up for grabs and it’s between St Johnstone and Hearts. As for the Champions League , Celtic booked their place in Europe’s premier club competition more than one month ago. It’s just as well most of it’s sorted because these teams don’t have long to prepare for a return to action. Here are the key dates... CHAMPIONS LEAGUECeltic begin their European campaign at the second qualifying-round stage, with the draw on June 19. This will be the Hoops’ sixth successive season among the Continent’s elite and their first match will be played on July 12/13. The second leg comes a week later (July 19/20). Celtic are seeded for all the qualifying rounds due to their superior co-efficient. They could yet find themselves pot three for the group stage. Brendan Rodgers will be hoping teams across Europe with lower co-efficients than Celtic’s qualify for the Champions League, thereby pushing the Hoops higher up the rankings. EUROPA LEAGUERangers go into the Europa League draw on June 19 for the first qualifying round, which will be played on June 29 for the first leg and the return on July 6. They will be joined at this stage by either St Johnstone or Hearts , although, given the Saints have a four-point lead over the Tynecastle side, it is more likely to be them. All teams at this stage are likely to be seeded. Rangers will be give a national co-efficient of 3.785. If the figures from this season are played out in the next campaign, the Ibrox side would be seeded in the first qualifying round – as Aberdeen and Hearts were last time round. In season 2016-17, NK Domzale were the lowest-ranked seeded side with a co-efficient of 3.625. Rangers will have the lowest mark of Scotland’s sides. Aberdeen look set to begin their Europa League adventure in the second qualifying round. This is for complex reasons ostensibly surrounding them qualifying as national cup winners. Due to Scotland’s position at number 25 in the Access List and the fact that they are the top ranked cup winners in the first qualifying round, there is a possibility that there could be re-balancing and the cup winner would be moved to the second qualifying round. If Manchester United win the Europa League and fail to qualify for the Champions League group stages domestically, then Aberdeen will receive a bye to the second round because Scotland will move up a place to 24th. Derek McInnes’ side face Celtic at Hampden on May 27 but as far as UEFA are concerned, they are classed as winners given Rodgers’ men have qualified for the Champions League. They would then start on July 13, with the second leg coming one week later on July 20. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/scottish-sides-play-first-european-10378603
