Just seen a report in La Gazzetta dello Sport that Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal might be invited to the 2019 Copa America in Brasil.

Japan have been in it before, so it wouldn't surprise me

Yeah there's been loads that have been invited, just to make up numbers, but these teams could actually win it, that's the surprising thing. It's easy inviting Japan, South Africa, or the US knowing they'll won't get too far, but I'm surprised they would invite teams that could seriously hurt South America's sense of pride in such a way.

Portland Timbers potential new stand.

It's almost impossible to get stadiums built in Portland so the Timbers essentially have been slowly converting a minor league baseball stadium, stand by stand. The stadium is still too small for them and they have an 8,000 season ticket waiting list.

Portland vs Seattle Sounders on this list is laughable- although there are usually some good Tifo's, a few we have ripped off. Been more intimidated when we play Hearts at Tynecastle though.

On being an old grump about football. Are some of us already there?:

Quote:

I can see myself in my twilight years, whiling away autumnal afternoons and sparsely floodlit Tuesday nights to a backdrop of thuds, yells and an occasional twist of real skill. Watching football wherever I feel like it, cheaply and without stress. Shouting out to the lumbering defender: “Oi, Dobson, you’re shampooe!” He turns around and sees an old man. What’s he going to do? By Age Five, you’ve paid your dues to football. It’s finally time to stand back with a pint and enjoy the game on your terms.

Just been on the DR website (I know I know) and have noticed how they have reported two recent cases of historical child abuse in football. I know that the main thing here is that these bastards finally get their comeuppance but found it odd on how the DR headlines mention it.

The first article refers to Frank Cairney an 82 year old and was a former Celtic Boys club manager, the second refers to Harry Dunn, 84 who was a former scout for Rangers, Liverpool and Chelsea.

The two headlines:-

"Former Celtic Boys Club manager in court over historical sexual offence allegations."

"Former football scout in court over historical sex abuse charges".

Why does the second headline not say "Former Rangers scout..."???

The big picture here is obviously that these two guys get their time in court and correctly punished if guilty, I just found the headlines from the DR strange and wonder why one headline clearly links the man to Celtic and the second makes no mention of Rangers.

Fitba's effed up at times. Birmingham defender Paul Robinson kicked out at an Aston Villa player and gets a 3 game ban. Unless I missed something else it was borderline trip borderline kick. Hardly a volley or overly violent. The player that breaks Colemans leg in a horror challenge gets a 2 game ban? :ffs:

Different tournaments I know but a leg breaker only 2 games yet a nothing kick gets 3? :nono:
