Sky Sports' Scottish Football League review from 1997-98 season.

Few things I learned watching this:

Hearts were surprisingly good, Motherwell's kits were shanners, Marco Negri seemed to score about 5 a game then disappeared round January, McCoist comes from effing nowhere in February, scores a few then effs off again, we won a trophy at Ibrox, Craig Burley seemed to pop up with goals from midfield with impressive regularity, we seemed to take 1 step forward, then immediately take 2 back the following week and 32k huns packed inside Ibrox to see a beam back of their game in Dundee hoping to see their team do the ten. Wee shame, that.

Burely was magnificent for us that season. Won POTY and deservedly so.

Negri was in effing scary form for them until the incident with the *ahem* tennis ball.

Allegedly he got hit in the eye with a squash ball and his form dipped, then he couldnt wait to get out of dodge IIRC.
Fair to say there were players in that dressing room who didnt like the fact that there was a catholic sitting next to them

I had heard that he took the hump about being told not to be blessing himself and that was why he always celebrated with a dead pan face

I thought he pumped porrini's wife and got lamped for it? The other rumour was that he took coke and that he jever played once the team found out. Both may be pish but pretty sure the catholic thing got debunked.

I think the squash story is the truth and the rest are made up urban legends. I think he said Wattie was pretty staunch and unsympathetic towards him when his form dropped. Looking back at those highlights his first touch was excellent and his finishing sublime. So composed around the box. With his form and our results we looked dead and buried after 2 games. His collapse in form was almost providential. He had to be dropped for a waning Super Salary for the last third of the season.

Derby game in Brasilia was abandoned after a fight broke out between players and officials of Brasiliense and Gama. Fans got onto pitch and a battle ensued. Fighting between officials and players continued inside the stadium with police using pepper spray on officials.

Goalkeeper Bruno Fernandes, who was sent to prison for killing his ex-girlfriend and feeding her to his dogs, has signed for Brazilian second division club Boa Esporte.

Fernandes, known in Brazil as Bruno, was sentenced to 22 years in prison for the 2010 murder of Eliza Samudio.

The former Flamengo player was released last month on a legal technicality.

"I am very happy for the opportunity I have been given," said Bruno at a news conference.

Bruno was a great goalie for Flamengo. From the favela, hung around with some desperately bad guys.

The woman's body was never found but a cousin told police Bruno had ordered her to be killed and the body disposed of. Cousin was murdered soon after. Murde was supposedly carried out by one of Bruno's nasty entourage. She had claimed to pregnant with his baby and was demanding money from him.

His conviction was unusual as there was no body. He is out on appeal after 7 years in prison. Theres a big movement to try and force Boa Esporte not to keep him on. Also a lot of folks campaigning for Bruno to be given a second chance.

I feel the article is very much in the former camp in the way it has reported the story. He should have looked for a contract outside Brazil I think. Probably cant due to him only being out on appeal.

BT should grab the SPFL rights as Scottish game is a lot of things but it certainly isn't dull - Sutton
Chris Sutton argues the case for the ever-improving Scottish game and shoots down those who ignore football in Scotland in favour of 'the greatest league in the world'.

Just before the Dawn

that's a great article by Sutton, and he's done nothing but good for the game up here this season.
Hopefully BT get the deal and Scottish Football gets back on it's feet. If the game between Dundee Utd and Hibs was watched by many down south, they'd be queuing up for more, and that's First Division. The sooner those two clubs get back to the top League, the better.

Haven't read that article by Sutton but I'm sure it's very positive. Was re-watching some of the LC semi against the huns last night and the BT coverage is infinitely preferable to the Glasgow derbies on Sky with McCann, Strachan et al :boik:

BT do like to manufacture arguments a bit but that's TV. SKy are just dour and negative almost all the time.

I've warmed to Derek Rae and even think Butcher's decent as co-commentator/analyser :ph43r:

Of course its positive, he's an employee of BT. This should maybe be in the Sky thread, with the title changed to reflect the discussion.
