Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes has been punished with a one game suspension for a pen stroke.

For the centenary of the French Cup, the FFF issued special tops showing all past winners. Lopes crossed out the name of St-Etienne and showed it on Twitter or Facebook.
thats ridiculous. To much sanitization of the game nowadays. Let players and fans give a bit of stick too other clubs
I don't disagree, but the problem is that the Lyon v St-Etienne has gone mad, and players fuel it deliberately. It isn't the first time Lopes is involved in it. For instance, last year, 10 St Etienne fans got jail sentences for having thrashed a wedding they mistakenly took for the one of a Lyon supporter. :cuckoo:
I've seen you mentioning their rivalry and how heated it is . What has caused the animosity?

is it purely football hatred or is their political or other reasons fueling the hatred?

Football has a huge part in this hate, but it's also driven by the differences between both towns, and the perception their people have of their status. For a long time, the posh Lyon was jealous of the success of the industrial St-Etienne. In reality, Lyon had been an industrial town as well, but the Lyonnais prefer to see themselves as the elite of workers. Lyon used to be the capital many centuries ago, after all. A few years ago, Lyon fans made an unsavoury banner for a derby game that resumes that : "while your great-grandfathers were dying in the mines, ours were inventing cinematography." The Lyonnais think everything in cinema has been discovered by the Lumière brothers in Lyon. In reality most of their great-grandfathers worked in factories in horrendous conditions too.

Jesus Christ, you wouldn't succeed if you asked a team of writers to come up with a more French football taunt. Maybe if there was a tifo that said 'your pain au chocolat is inferior' and a full stadium chanted 'aw-haw-hee-haw-hee-haw'.

Twelve years ago, PSG fans made a controversial banner in a match against Lens : "Paedos, jobless, alcoholics, incestuous, welcome in Lens "

At that time, a blockbuster movie, "Les Chtis", celebrated the few positives about France Northern region and PSG fans just reminded the reality. IIRC, there was even a trial about the banner.

St Etienne fans had this banner too : "Hunting season is open. Kill the Lyonnais"

Surely this has been mentioned before but I cannot find it yet. Although I cannot find the full scene which basically rips the pish out of yon hun and how aforementioned feels out of place in modern society; I feel I have to post this terribly shot hidden cinema camera from Trainspotting T2 as it has to be my favourite scene in cinematography to date. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzXSM-H9s2Y

Scott Brown needs to play 7 more games in Europe to beat the record held for number of European games played for a single Scottish club. I think it's also just three games to become the Scottish player with most overall appearances in Europe owing to his games with Hibs.

Also saw a post of the Russian hooligans and one of them is wearing a Ronny Deila T-Shirt

Watched the BBC show on Russian hooligans (who are quite clearly unbalanced and very homoerotic in their tendencies) and one had the same Celtic towel I have. What the actual feck??? #unacceptable
