another one only in the spotlight to promote scottish football, running it down :ffs:

Quote:

Tony Watt has dismissed Scottish football – insisting he doesn’t want to return.

The striker went back to Charlton in December after his loan spell ended at Hearts, where he managed just one goal.

He revealed he only went to Tynecastle to get fit and was adamant he won’t be back in Scotland until the end of his career as it "wouldn’t be worth his while".

The 23-year-old, speaking in Edinburgh to promote the William Hill Scottish Cup, said: "I came back for myself.

"I had an injury in the summer and it was never going to be a long-term option.

"I don't want to be back in Scottish football.

"I enjoyed it at Hearts but I don't see myself in Scottish football in the next five or 10 years."

Former Celtic attacker Watt shot to prominence in a 2012 when he scored the winner against Barcelona in a Champions League clash but his career failed to take off.

He has been at six clubs since his boyhood favourites but will stay in England because it’s more lucrative and has better football.

Watt has failed to score on his return to Charlton and he told STV: "Hearts is a big club and I enjoyed my time there.

"It's just not for me. It's the style, the play, everything. Financially England is better.

"It wouldn't be worth your while coming back to Scotland when you could play in England.

"I'm not saying that in a bad way or with a strong feeling. Hearts were brilliant with me. They gave me the platform to get my career back after an injury.

"I just feel English football is more suited to me, or foreign football away from the UK. I don't mean to speak badly of Scottish football, there's some great players here who could play in the English Championship or the Premier League.

"It's just that for me I prefer to stay in England for a while."

All he said is he makes more money in England. It's true.
It's not ALL he said though, is it? He also had this to say... "It's just not for me. It's the style, the play, everything."

This from a player who scored once and assisted zero times in 16 games for a Hearts team that has scored more goals than any team in the League outside Celtic.

Becoming increasingly embittered, which is not a good trait in a 23 year old.

Christ knows who thought it would be a good idea to get him to promote the Scottish Cup. Probably as far away from a role model for young aspiring kids as you could possibly find.

Found this quite amusing from the Telegraph. "Twenty underrated managers who deserve a chance in the English Premier League."

As well as including Brendan Rodgers, it lists luminaries such as Tommy Wright, Paul Hartley and Derek McInnes
