More Sutton and one that will get debated to death no doubt.
It's quite interesting.

Only a couple of Celtic current crop would get into Martin O'Neill's 2001 treble-winning team - Sutton
Record Sport columnist Chris Sutton believes Brendan Rodgers' charges still have a lot to do to emulate O'Neill's Hoops heroes.
Spoiler: click to toggle
Thompson at Left back? Think both Tierney and Izzy could have played LB in O'Neill's team. I don't think it's as close as Sutton makes out about Douglas and Gordon. Can't disagree with the rest.
Would have agathe over lustig and possibly just have gordon over douglas.
MONs team cost more and were paid more than the current team so it's no surprise that they are probably better than ther current team but BR time and the financing and then compare. Can you imagine us spending £6m on a player and paying a EPL level salary just now, never mind buying 2 £6m players within 6 months. Changed days indeed.

A little bit of revisionism going on in the English press about the England "Golden Age" team. It was a decent squad, but it was miles beneath the best at that time. They can't even compare themselves to Croatia, Greece or Portugal nevermind France, Brazil or Holland.

They had 8 or 9 good players and they'd pick them all even if it meant a couple would be out of position. That, and the lack of a decent goalie, ultimately knackered them.

RONNY DEILA insists he’s not jealous of Brendan Rodgers’ success because he has played a part in Celtc’s season of glory too.

Rodgers has enjoyed a sensational opening campaign in Scotland taking 67 out of a possible 69 points in the Premier League, ahead of today’s visit to St Johnstone.

It’s in marked contrast to Deila’s second and final season at Parkhead where they stumbled their way over the finishing line and got knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Championship side Rangers.

Deila is preparing for his first season in charge of homeland side Valarenga after quitting the Hoops in the summer.

But, in a wide-ranging interview in Norway, defiant Deila insists he has no regrets about his time at Celtic.

And he insists he built the foundations for Rodgers’ success.

He said: “I read that I should feel cheated because of what Celtic have done with the same players this season.

“Why should I feel cheated?

“I’m hugely impressed by what Brendan Rodgers has done this season… f***ing impressed.

“And I feel a sense of ownership about this team that I helped create who are now absolutely the best team in Scotland right now.

“Is Brendan Rodgers a better coach than me? He may well be… he is one of the world’s top club managers and has been Liverpool boss.

“I hold no grudges against him or anyone. I am proud I have been a part of it.

“I’m very pleased that that many of the players I had doing are doing fine now.

“For me, it is a gratification, I’m not a trophy hunter, I operated by creating things. And I have been very clear on this.

“Virgil van Dijk was sold for £15million – Celtic’s biggest ever transfer. Who was involved in that?

“I created things at Celtic and they are now reaping the rewards of it.

“It was part of my job and I hope to do the same at Valarenga.

“People can say what they want, but I lost 19 games of 120 and was the manager of Celtic for two seasons.

“The experience of being a manager at such a big club has made me a stronger person.”

And Deila reckons the whole reason he got the Celtic job in the first place was because the club was downsizing.

He pointed out: “One of the reasons I got the job was that Celtic realised they had to think differently.

“They would not buy the best and most expensive players anymore, they had to develop their own players and create a culture.

“And I was involved in this process.

“I certainly was involved in transferring my knowledge to the team and they have reaped the fruits of my labour.

“And when they got Brendan Rodgers, it was a giant step for them.

“The way I handled it and the experience I gained, I’m proud.

“Now I am not afraid to take over any club in the world. I know that Celtic is one of the biggest clubs in Europe and it has given me confidence that I know what’s coming if I get a chance like this again.

“Of course there are things I regret, but I don’t use the word regret – I prefer to say I would have done things differently.

“The biggest challenge for me was knowing the market, especially in the second year.

“But in the first season, I signed players like John Guidetti, Jason Denayer, Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong so there are lots of positives.”

And Deila launched a staunch defence of his captain Scott Brown, who had a disappointing, injury-plagued campaign last term, in contrast to this season’s all-action, dynamic displays.

He was also infamously picture slumped and looking tired and emotional in an Edinburgh street just days before the League Cup Final.

But Deila explained: “Scott Brown is one of the most serious players I’ve ever coached.

“He gave 100 per cent every day – trained like a champion every day and you can’t do that if you have a junk lifestyle off the pitch.

“But with the spotlight he and the rest of the Celtic players have 24/7, it’s almost as if the media pay people to find out bad things about him.

“He played almost 60 games that season and withstood it. And it was the first drink he’d had in almost half a year.

“We spoke about it, he was not proud of it, but he broke no rules. The only negative was that he blackened our name. But people make mistakes and Scott Brown was for me a thorough pro.”

PETER ODEMWINGIE will again urge Celtic target Henry Onyekuru to join the club in the summer.

The Nigerian striker has an agreement with current club KAS Eupen to move to a club of his choosing at the end of the season.

The 19-year-old was the subject of a £1million from the Hoops in January.

But Eupen snubbed the offer in the hope that they could sell the player to CSKA Moscow.

Onyekuru effectively went on strike in a bid to force through the move.

But he was forced to return to the Belgian side at the end of the transfer window.

Onyekuru had his heart set on moving to Parkhead after approaching former West Brom star and fellow countryman Odemwingie for advice.

The 35-year-old said a move to Celtic would be the teenager’s best chance of eventually transferring to the Premier League.

And he revealed that he will give Onyekuru the same advice this summer.

Odemwingie told the Daily Record: “Henry phoned me in January and explained the situation.

“He said he had a few offers here and there and wasn’t too happy at his Belgian club and wanted to leave.

“He asked me specifically about Celtic and I told him first and foremost they are a big club, they give youngsters a chance and it’s a step closer to the English Premier League.

“Even for someone like me looking in from the outside I was able to list so many positives about moving to Celtic and he seemed to agree – but he had other options.

“Once we had our conversation it was out of my hands.

“I told him to do what was right for him and what he felt would make him happiest but certainly I made a strong case for Celtic.

“I know the Scottish Premiership isn’t the biggest league but Celtic are a massive club.

“They play in Europe every year and a lot of times in the Champions League.

“It’s a step closer to the English Premier League.

“I don’t mean geographically but in the sense that Celtic are a club that develops young talent and moves them on to better places.

“I also said it would help to get a UK work permit and that would probably be easier without the issue of having to play 75 per cent of games for your national team to get into the English Premier League, which affected me when I was younger.

“He was undecided when I spoke to him but he seemed keen on Celtic by the time we finished talking, mainly because he could get to the English Premier League quicker than any other route.

“I gave him all the advice I could but then it was up to him.

“He has obviously stayed in Belgium for now.

“If he comes back to me and he has the same options in the summer then he will have to make the choice for himself – but for me Celtic are a good choice.”

He's way too young to retire. He's got years left in him. Some player though. :worthy:
