Pique on pranking teammates:

"... Evra came in with shoes that he'd been asking Nike for months to make. They had the name of his children on them and all these crazy details. He went into the shower and we created a small bonfire and burned them. We recorded it and then sent him the video."

Possibly. I don't think anyone thought that the current value of the EPL rights is sustainable. Sky have just posted record profits, but interestingly enough put growth down to Now TV and their entertainment offerings. It's possible for the first time in Sky's history they've managed to break their dependency on live sports and that could spell trouble for the EPL when the negotiations begin for the next round of television rights.

People get bored of "narratives". There's no such thing as narratives in sport other than "I like this team and want them to win so I'll watch them."
The storylines created in football is now at WWE/Heat magazine levels, where it has become unpalatable to many football fans who just actually enjoy watching the sport being played.

Wrestling is a good analogy for the EPL this season. The Pep/Mourinho rivalry which everyone thought would drive ratings for the EPL this season is a bit like when the WWE brought back the NWO, forgetting that everyone had seen it years ago with better players.

Yeah it's a good point. People didn't enjoy Mourinho the first time round because he was Mourinho. It was because he was new and interesting. That's the formula. He himself is not not the formula.
The same goes for what they did to wrestling. In order to bring Atittude ratings, they brought back Attitude stars, ignoring that it wasn't the personas who made attitude; it was that it hadn't been done before.

Having said that I think football fans are generally getting fed up with personalities. There's only so much you can witness before you just want to watch some effing football.

Yeah but that can be explained by the election debates, pish prime time line ups and the push towards online streaming.

Cable cutting is becoming a big thing in the US.

the presence of better and more stable 'dodgy apps' or streams from round the world contributes to this no end. I wonder what subscriber %'s are like if viewing figures are down so drastically..
