Bundesliga club Darmstadt add name of tragic fan to stadium title

Quote:

Bundesliga club Darmstadt have added the name of a fan who died of cancer to its official stadium title for one season.

The arena will carry the name “Jonathan-Heimes-Stadion am Boellenfalltor” after technology company Merck gave up its naming rights for this season. Heimes died in March at 26.

Some may know that I follow Darmstadt, although it seems a nice "gesture", it reeks for me as a cheap PR stunt. Maybe I have a heart of stone, dunno
No, I'm with you somewhat. I mean, what sets this particular supporter out from the rest of Darmstadt's supporters that are out there dying of cancer and what not that don't get the stadium named after them?
He had been fundraising for cancer research in a pretty big way, and had quite a bit of publicity for his actions.

It's not just because he died from cancer that they've randomly decided to name the stadium after him.

Also, it's only for this season. Reverts to normal from next season.

Cheers for the clarification.

I see Landon Donovan has come out of retirement to go back to LA Galaxy. I know it's only the MLS but he's been out the game two years!

I feel like he's such an attention seeker. Never understood why he retired early.

Probably just so he could make a "splash" by coming out of retirement

It was mentioned when Oliver Burke moved to them, but here's a bit more (from The Guardian) on the awful RB Leipzig

I hate these types of articles about worldwide viewership in any sport. It's a load of made up nonsense and nigh on impossible to actually measure though I can almost guarantee that the actual viewership won't be anywhere near what is actually being quoted.

I would normally like Man Utd to win their derby games.
Not for any particular reason other than they had a strong Scottish connection and that Man City were crap and are now bankrolled to the hilt.
But now Pep is at Man City and I really like him and Mourinho and Zlatan are at Man Utd and I don't like them. I rate Zlatan as a football player but don't like, possibly his media persona.
And then there is this;

Zlatan has a hatred of Guardiola that's raged inside him since he killed his Catalan dream six years ago

Celtic insurance premiums will be way up if Bougherra goes to Kilmarnock. Animal with a license. They had a string of them. Remember Cousin's last tackle for Rangers?

Not sure where to best put this but there is a new Scottish periodical launched - Nutmeg. The first edition has not long arrived through the post, looks impressive.
