Brasilian League starts this weekend. Tomorrow Santos host Flamengo but the game has been moved to Brasilia. Santos have ben paid big money to move the game to Brasilia to test out the rebuilt national stadium there. Flamengo get feck all even though as the best supported team they'll have the majority of the fans there.

Has this ever happened elsewhere? A team playing a home game in a city thousands of miles away for cash?

Don't know about clubs but don't Brazil use the Emirates as a home stadium?

Aye, Nike and other sponsors have pushed that. Also its easier to get top opposition like Scotland if you play in Europe. The excuse trotted out is that most players are Europe-based these days but its still pish.

Wonder if its ever happened with a club in a domestic league though. Brasilia has no top flight team, so that's probably why they asked someone from outside to open it. And with Flamengo playing they'll get a big support going.

Interesting interview with Platini here. He seems to be the UEFA equivalent of Doncaster, but at least Platini explains the Rangers scenario properly.

Sorry it's a Daily Mail link but I'm on my phone so can't cut and paste the text.

Worth a read.

Mourinho leaving Madrid put me in mind of this for some reason.

A video from the awesome Gorilla productions (who do even better boxing videos) highlighting the 5-0 demolition job in Mourinho's first season:

Sublime.
That was outstanding. Thanks.
Monday night game if I remember. I doubt I will see such a clinical performance as that again. It was jawdropping.

I've never understood how people can't kick a football.

The least you could do is a big dirty toe-poke.

They had a big crowd and generated 7 million Reais from ticket sales (Santos only got 800k of it). So the company that organized the game walked of with millions, feckin bassas. Ended up being Neymar's last game with Santos which guaranteed the big crowd despite ludricous ticket prices.

They do it in American sports. For example the Jacksonville Jagwaars are playing 1 home game in London for the next 4 seasons.
I am sure Baseball had a season opener in Tokyo also.
Then the NBA had a game in London this year too.

As for football..... cant think of any.

Picture and article

Brazil will have a third strip launch tomorrow. Its black and has the CBF badge on the sleeve. And the team can't wear it because the CBF rules state that only colours on the flag can be used by Brasil - green, gold, blue and white. I like the top but surely marketing gone mad if you have a third strip you can't use. :cuckoo:
