In the continued absence of the Press Watch Thread, thought I'd best pop this in here.

Revealed: the offshore firms buying up Scottish football

David Leask, Chief Reporter

OFFSHORE investors based in some of the world's most notorious tax havens are buying up stakes in Scottish football clubs.

A Sunday Herald investigation has revealed that anonymously held offshore companies have stakes in at least four Scottish clubs. However, the clubs affected are refusing to discuss offshore ownership, or the issue of potential tax avoidance.

We have identified substantial offshore shareholdings in Celtic, currently the nation's richest and most successful club. Rival Glasgow team Rangers also has secretive investors, some formally registered offshore.

Two other well known Scottish teams, the Premiership's Dundee and the Championship's Dumbarton, are also refusing to comment on where key non-UK shareholdings in both clubs are ultimately owned.

Olympiakos and Mexico player kidnapped

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-36409366

Mexican footballer Alan Pulido has been kidnapped in the northern border state of Tamaulipas, officials say.

The 25-year-old striker was reportedly kidnapped on Sunday near his home in Ciudad Victoria after leaving a party.

He plays for the Greek team Olympiakos and has made several appearances for Mexico's national team.

Mexico has the one of the world's highest kidnapping rates, with government figures saying some 1,000 people are taken every year.

Others argue that the true figure could be almost ten times as high.

Criss-crossed by drug smugglers

Local media reports said Pulido had been leaving a party with his girlfriend late on Saturday night when their car was surrounded by several trucks.

Six masked men reportedly took the striker away "by force" while his girlfriend was left unharmed in the car park where the incident took place.

Tamaulipas is one of Mexico's most violent states, and Mexico recently deployed more security forces to tackle cartels operating in the area.

Dozens of people have been killed in recent weeks in the border state, which is criss-crossed by drug-smuggling routes to the United States.

Pulido joined Olympiakos last July and finished the season with six goals in 15 games.

Got friendly with some guys from Grand Rapids FC on Twitter after seeing a bit of one of their games live on Periscope. Did a fanzine swap with them, sent some Alternative Views and Not The Views over and got some of theirs.

See them tweeting today "Come on you boys in Blue!" and joked with the guy that it was weird seeing that as we sing boys in green... he says "chant was introduced to us by a German/Scottish Celtic fan!"

Small world...

Wasn't sure where to post this, found it quite funny

Celtic, as champions, have requested that both Rangers and Partick Thistle games are played at Parkhead first. So we get both derbies at home, just in case neither make the top 6

Can't see an appropriate thread, apologies if this is the wrong one.

Lesley broke is leg 4 weeks ago but has today been included in the Welsh squad. I find that quite amazing. The operation must have gone very well and he must have responded well to it. In addition he must be putting in vary hard physiognomy work. Hope he makes it and does well. Equally I also hope he does not do himself any harm.

However they must be certain of the reports they are getting to select him, having some time to make progress before the tournament rethat than someone who is match fit.

Nevertheless it must be a gamble, all round.

Trying to drum up support for strict liability for clubs towards their fans behaviour.
They say this si used in Europe and points can be deducted and they would like to see it brought in here, although it had already been voted out a few years ago.
No doubt there will be a campaign to get those bad men with pyrotechnics at football matches and dock the team points for this.
