Seen on a Chile Celtic Supporters facebook page that we are in for this guy..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81ngelo_Henr%C3%ADquez

Could be doing with a good South American striker, but doubt there's anything to it. Seems to have decent record at Zagreb, but I have no idea what that means, i.e., level of play in the Croatian league.

Similar to Scotland. Largely pish.

I can't see them wanting to sell him as they only signed him permanently last summer and surely we'd look at it as wasted money given we could have got him for a nominal fee last year...

Aye but aren't they run by a mentalist who is notoriously erratic? That might be our hope there (if the guy's any good anyway).

They are indeed. Could be a quick way to take some money to the cleaners. Much like the £5m for Simunovic

He's awright. Obviously better than Kazim-Richards and Cole. Similar 'type' to Griffiths.

Have to say I was more surprised that there was a "Chilean Celtic" supporters group on Facebook more than anything. In fact, there's two.

I was surprised to find avenues called O'Higgins and McKenna in Santiago. I found a pub showing a Celtic game once, and met a few expats there.

Sure you've read up but just in case...Bernardo O'Higgins led the fight for Chilean independence, his dad was Sligo native Ambrose O'Higgins who was a "wild geese" who joined the Spanish army and rose through the ranks to become Viceroy of Peru and Chile. Pretty much every town in Chile will have an O'Higgins Avenue or Boulevard. The town of Vallenar is a hispanization of Ballenary, the town where Ambrose O'Higgins came from. And of course the proper football hipster's choice of a team in Chile to support should be none other the O'Higgins FC, from Rancagua.

Juan McKenna was a Monaghan native, that similar to Ambrose, got to South America via Spain, and ended up fighting with Bernardo in the fight for Chile's independence. Was eventually arrested and died in an Argentine prison, iirc.

Lest the KDS Red Brigades get all excited about Universidad Catolica, it should be noted that they are from the poshest area of Santiago, Colo Colo are more working class but a bit right wing. Universidad de Chile are supposedly the leftist intellectual team. But like I said if you want true credentials as a football hipster, I'd go for O'Higgins, or maybe one of the ethnic teams, Audax Italiano, Union Espanola, or Palestino. Santiago Wanderers play in green and white, but don't look for them in Santiago, they play in Valparaiso.

Anyways, I was once an exchange student in Chile, lest you think I'm some sort of weirdo that knows too much about Chile.

Sorry mate. Palestino are the confirmed hipsters' choice of Chilean teams at the moment. That'll change when Palestino tops become mainstream.
