Madrid could* be kicked out of the Copa Del Rey for fielding an ineligible player, who actually opened the scoring.

BBC

* But since its them they probably won't!

The Courier - printed in Dundee but distributed all over Fife, Tayside and Central, it's the daily paper of the Sunday Post - always has had a reputation as being "a bit" conservative and reactionary, they even meekly supported the ruling white party in South Africa until pretty much the abolition of Apartheid. Today it carries a story about James McCarthy being cited for speeding in Glasgow, the article emphasises he formerly played for Hamilton Accies but grew up supporting Celtic and was born in Castlemilk but chose to play for Ireland. Horrific crimes I am sure. Not to mention the speeding.
The only thing that was missing was a picture of him in Ireland jersey with horns on his head and holding a devil's trident.

Either a group stage where the four worst 2nd places go out, or an extra round of 32 so that only 8 teams go out in the first round.

Or 8 groups of 5.

Whatever it sounds a bit pish.

Scotland might just sneak in there in 2026 alongside New Zealand, American Samoa and Tibet...

https://uk.sports.yahoo.com/news/esp-serie-lazio-star-lulic-finger-chopped-freak-training-202436237--sow.html

Lazio have revealed details of a horrific injury sustained by Bosnian winger Senad Lulic.

It is still not clear how the incident occurred, but he was taken to a clinic following an accident in the gym during today’s training session and has undergone surgery to reconstruct his hand.

Last night the club released a statement explaining the current situation.

Lulic suffered the traumatic sub-amputation of the distal phalanx and fracture of the fourth finger, plus fracture of the intermediary phalanx of the third finger.

Essentially this means the top of his fourth finger was chopped off.

Lulic went into the Mater Dei clinic and underwent surgery to reconstruct the phalanx of the fourth finger in his right hand and reduce the fracture of the third finger.

The player will remain in the clinic for two to three days in order to monitor the situation.

It’s not clear when Lulic will be available to play again, but such a traumatic injury would assume not until after Christmas.

A woman once told me when she was looking for work and at an interview with DC Thomson they asked the same question the huns scouts used to ask lads they were interested in signing.....when she gave the "wrong" answer she was quickly advised there were no positions available and pointed towards the nearest exit.
The piece about James McCarthy makes mention of him being a Celtic fan and choosing to play for Ireland, I think readers are supposed to recoil in horror as they read this and tut,tut at his speeding incident.

Without wishing to take the thread off on a tangent, compare and contrast their reporting of school inspections. Any school with a St, Our or RC in their title receiving a less than glowing report from HMIE is taken to town in reports and editorials. Non-Dom schools, not so much. That's not to say they won't report on all schools' inspections, but the sub message ain't subtle.

They do try and cover their tracks with regard to their "agendas", but I don't think anyone is fooled. Thinly veiled at times.

Was surprised when I saw that their stadium is only 17,000 capacity. Hope they make any changes well as Tynecastle is famous for its atmosphere.

Also good to see a Scottish team expanding, even if it is Hearts ;)

Mrs Budge has made assurances it will remain a vile cesspool of bigotry and violence, in a shiny new package.

Interview with Mark McGhee, who can guess / knows what Aha is?

Interview: Mark McGhee on football ambition and delusion

AIDAN SMITH

Motherwell manager and Scotland assistant Mark McGhee trained with a major design firm then had a hugely successful playing career but admits that management has left him unfulfilled – so far. He is busy drawing up new (secret) plans for the youth set-up at Fir Park

On the journey to Fir Park to meet Mark McGhee the taxi driver – obviously – has some advice. “Dinnae listen to that one’s shampooe,” he says with a chuckle. The cabbie insists he’s pleased to see the manager back at Motherwell, although then comes the familiar, fateful Lanarkshire kicker: “I’m a Celtic fan, by the way.” But enough about this fellow, can you guess McGhee’s first words, more or less, when we get to his office? That’s right: “Avant-garde.”

We’ll come to that but first, time for lunch. I’m in the canteen with Pearo and Lazz – Stephen Pearson and Keith Lasley to you – and the rest of the boys, with the boss insistent I join them. He’s waiting for meatballs and rice which arrive in a great steaming pile. “Christ,” he says, “am I supposed to eat this or climb it?”
