He used to show how far the sport had come in Australia

When he took it up "real football/rugby" men said it was a game only played by sheilas, wogs and poofters

The Football League in England is to be rebranded the "EFL" at the end of this season.

New logo and everything.
Doncaster will be proposing the same for Scotland shortly, and I don't mean 'SFL', he'll go for EFL too

Schalke PR guy gives brilliant response to newspaper claim that hitler was a fan
Spoiler: click to toggle
the responses from German Organisations are always so much more professional than British ones, can you imagine any Scottish club responding in anything near the same as that?
Although you could be pretty sure there'd be someone lodging a complaint with some authority somewhere as soon as anyone did respond with any mention of any infamous historic figure, that this cast aspersions on them today

CELTIC could soon be cherrypicking the best young talent in the Gulf.

They have sealed a lucrative partnership agreement with Saudi Arabian top-flight outfit Hajer Club.

The Hoops sent International Soccer Academy manager Tony Massie to Saudi last week to confirm the new venture.

He said: “We now have partnerships with 52 clubs in 18 countries and this agreement will help both clubs develop young players.

“The aim is to select young players from the Middle East and train them at our academy.”

How are all the other lucrative partnerships going?
Has anyone come through to Rangers (RIP) from Northern Spirit yet?

CELTIC are chasing Slovak wonderkid Matus Bero.

SunSport understands the Hoops are among a host of top clubs keeping tabs on the AS Trencin midfielder.

Slovakian sources claim Celtic had the 20-year-old watched in a league match against Spartak Myjava last month.

Bero, who faced Holland Under-21s last night, is also being chased by clubs in England, Italy and Belgium.

He is regarded as hot property and recently signed a three-year contract with Trencin.

But the Slovakian champs won’t stand in his way of a dream move in January if they get a suitable offer. Bero has nine goals in 15 games this season and is capable of playing in several midfield positions.

He is relaxed about his future but admits he one day dreams of starring in England — and Celtic could be an ideal stepping stone.

He said: “In football and life you never know what awaits you. My time may come in about two months, half a year, or not come at all.

“The dream league for me would be the English Premier League.

“They play a style that I love — players don’t stop for 90 minutes and there is a lot of emotion.”

Trencin general manager Robert Rybnicek confirmed scouts from across Europe have watched Bero.

He knows the Slovakian league leaders won’t hang on to him for long — but warned interested clubs they will pay the going rate.

He said: “Recently, we have had Arsenal, Liverpool and AC Milan, which is unbelievable for Slovakia.

“There is a lot of noise about Matus. He has been excellent for a long time and is one of the valuable players in Slovakia.

“He’s not just worth a lot on the pitch. He has a great nature and it comes across in his performances.

“When Matus does leave here, it will be one of the biggest transfers in Slovakian history. He will have several alternatives.”

Everton have reportedly joined Chelsea and Manchester United in the transfer chase for Red Star Belgrade youngster Marko Grujic.
The Daily Mail claim Toffees chief scout Kevin Reeves watched the 19-year-old midfielder play for Serbia U21s against Italy on Friday.

Celtic, Anderlecht, Stuttgart, Roma and Ajax also had scouts at the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw, and competition for his signature is expected to increase over the coming months with bidding likely to start at around £4.5million.

Sunderland are tracking Celtic midfielder Nir Bitton, but a January move looks a long-shot for the Israeli international.

Highly-rated Bitton penned a new five-year contract with the Scottish Premiership champions at the start of the month, but that has not stopped a number of Premier League clubs sending scouting missions north of the border.

Sunderland are the latest top-flight outfit to be casting their gaze over Bitton after watching him in action on several occasions in recent weeks.

But it would be something of a shock for the 24-year-old to arrive at the Stadium of Light in the upcoming transfer window.

It is understood that Bitton’s camp is yet to receive any contact over a potential move to Wearside.

And more crucially, Celtic are thought to be looking for a fee around the £10million mark – as they banked from the sale of centre-half Virgil van Dijk to Southampton in the summer, who Sunderland had previously been following closely.

good wee watch about the Socceroos

Magic. I was there. Probably my best night as a spectator. Asian Cup win up there as well. 2005 was catharsis - so many failures and disappointments. 2015 Asian Cup was great as well - a team with few stars, but well organised and coached, and a great final - leading near half-time, lose a goal in second half stoppage, then score a winner in extra time.

The stuff about 2005 being the game's last chance to take hold in Australia is pretty damn true - the successes of the national team (and regular competitive matches against better opponents in Asia) have helped hold the league up on occasion.

I watched it in my house on kittens all day and night. Remember I think it was Recoba missed an absolute sitter at 0-0, and being devastated when Dukes missed the penalty in the shoot out. Right after the final whistle my auntie rang co-incidentally from Scotland and wondered what all the noise in the background was as we were all running around like idiots...

Just a wonderful moment - Craig Foster can be a bell-end at times, but his little "Johnny Warren" mention in the bedlam was perfect. Don't think people outside of Australia know what me meant to the sport in this country.

Interesting article about CS Lebowski. A (mostly) uplifting story in the sad, dystopian world of 21st century football. :)

How CS Lebowski fans set up their own football club ... and honoured The Dude

Quote:

The fans are united against the excesses of the modern football and say they are in a “battle over who is master of the game”. They see the pushing and pulling between club presidents, sponsors, the football association, government, media and law enforcement and believe that the fans are always the ones who lose out. The supporters at Lebowski think many of their fellow football followers have become “resigned to passivity”. The very nature of their own model means fans are absolutely essential and at the heart of everything they do to make the club function.

A romantic idea this may be, but the remarkable thing about the Grigionero is that they have translated these ideals into success...
Quite an exciting and inspiring story.
