When was the first time that we fielded a team with more non-Scots than Scots in it?

Was talking to a mate about this yesterday after noticing there were five Scots out of eleven in yesterday's starting line-up, I guessed possibly O'Neill's first season, my mate thought the Venglos season, anyone know for sure?

This is the team that beat rfc in the 4th round of the Scottish cup on 25th February 1990.

bit contentious maybe as Scottish-born Tommy Coyne never represented ROI untill 1992.
6 non-scots starters (Coyne included as one of them) with Rogan on the bench.
Bonner; Morris, Wdowczwk, Galloway, Elliott, Whyte, Grant, McStay, Dziekanowski, Coyne (Walker, 76), Miller.
Substitute not used: Rogan.

nice one cheers, I'd say that Coyne was Scottish though, I had wondered if any team from that era had been the first, with Bonner, Morris and Elliot all regular starters. had forgotten about Dziekanowsk!

A 14 year old football player with an inoperable brain tumour has started a Facebook page asking Gressroots teams to send in photos of them making the heart symbol to show they're thinking of her:

Seem to recall a game in the last decade where we arguably had 11 different nationalities starting the game.

IIRC I was debating it with one of my mates at the game and the "controversy" was over whether one of the players counted as his nation of birth or the country he represented (McGeady?? Commons?? maybe even Bobo Balde??) - I remember having the discussion during a really dull and poorly attended game, but can't recall what season it was.

Robert Snodgrass was househunting in Glasgow this afternoon. Doubt he's going to Rangers - could be a retirement home right enough...

Remember Marc Crosas? Decent player who never quite hit the heights he could have been capable of (in a team which wasn't built to make best use of him). I guess modelling Mexican hipster sunglasses was a better career move? Posted Image

Don't know if it is worth a thread of it's own but this came from quite a large study, conducte by IESE a Spanish business school and INSEAD an international business school:

"Dark skinned players are 1.3 times more likely to be sent off than lighter skinned players*."

This emphasises the problem of unconscious bias (giving the benefit of the doubt of fraud or outright racism being involved) in referees. Hopefully this allows the debate to open up more from the juvenile level of either you believe the game is honest or you are conspiracy theorist.

The question now is if the science is accepted then what processes are put in place to mitigate this at a national level?

* The data came from studying 2000 players over a full season in the EPL, la Liga, the Bundesliga and la Ligue. It was analysed by 29 research teams using various methods, the consolidated average was 1.3. Variables such as position played were part of the dataset.

'This emphasises the problem of unconscious bias' this ill happen all the time.

Any hun referee that comes up against Celtic, probably has this, it is not the colour of skin it is the colour of the shirt they are wearing.

So if someone has deep rooted beliefs / prejudices it will manifest in their behaviour, and if they are referees the way to deal with this is to exert your power and flash the red and yellow cards.

Yes, cognitive bias in football has often been discussed however no real sizeable, objective data has been available to support it.

As I say it maybe paves the way for a more rational, reasonable debate on the subject.
