Another ex-player done by the gambling bug.

Former Scotland defender Dominic Matteo made bankrupt after racking up more than £1 MILLION of gambling losses
NORMAN SILVESTER

MATTEO, who played for Liverpool and Leeds United, has previously admitted he was a heavy gambler who lost more than a million pounds by betting on horses.

FORMER Scotland defender Dominic Matteo has gone bust after racking up more than £1million of gambling losses.

An order against the ex-Liverpool and Leeds United star to make him personally bankrupt was obtained by the government-run Insolvency Service at Halifax County Court in West Yorkshire.

The bankruptcy move follows admissions by Matteo that he had been a heavy gambler and had lost more than a million pounds on the horses.

I'm new. Be gentle.
Had a customer in today [in Norway]. We started talking football, and he told me he grew up a stones throw from Ibrox. No passion or pride in how he said it. So I told him I was a bhoy, and his face lighted up. "Me too!" he said. And proceeded to tell me the story of how he disappointed his whole family by changing team allegiance when he was around 14, from 'gers to Celtic.

His father still hasn't forgiven him.

It's just a little weird listening to the amount of feelings involved in the rivalry, even to this day when it's not the same club even. Was some interesting insight into a world of passion and hate we rarely see here in Scandinavia. Made me thoughtful today....

And

"He's very reserved and, when I first seen it, I thought 'that's a bit naughty, a bit risque' and a lot of people have said that as well."

Well Jamie, maybe you're just a boring carrot that is too easily shocked and that's why you weren't invited to the wedding.

Well done Naisy. Does some good work in Kilmarnock with the Loaves and Fishes charity every Christmas, a wee runt of a player when he played against us but seems his heart is in the right place.

Steven Naismith repeats "small gesture" of giving Everton tickets to unemployed

SCOTLAND forward Steven Naismith has repeated his “small gesture” of handing out tickets for Everton home matches to the unemployed across Merseyside. The one-time Rangers and Kilmarnock player, who also works with with homeless, dyslexia and injured service personnel charities, started the initiative last year and has decided to do so again after receiving a popular response.

He explained he felt “an obligation” to help those less fortunate. “I come from a working class background and I have witnessed the hardships that unemployment can bring to individuals, families and communities,” he said. “I feel an obligation, a duty to help where I can.

“For those trying hard to find a job, money will be tight. A match day ticket may well a luxury beyond their reach and this is a small gesture to help those in that situation to enjoy a day out at Goodison Park.

“From the feedback I have received, it appears to have brought some joy to many people last season and, once again, I have asked the Jobcentreplus team to help select people who are unemployed through no fault of their own and are trying hard to find employment and who would enjoy watching a match.

“I feel blessed for the opportunities and lifestyle my job as a footballer has afforded my family and me. The sport has also put me in the position where I can help the community in some small way. It is my duty to utilise that position for the greater good of the community.

“Unemployment can be a terrible thief of a person’s identity and self-esteem. I hope this initiative helps recognise good people struggling hard to overcome hard times and bring a little joy and recognition for their efforts
