Found this.

Reminded me of this.

When strips were unsponsored, shorts were short, and a ball weighed 10lbs heavier in the rain.

The commentator on the second is Barry davies i'm sure. I don't think we ever got enough of him. He was one of my favourite commentators. In saying that, maybe he commentated alot more during the 70s and 80s, before i watched fitbaw.

I remember Di Canio hit the bar from a freekick like that against Rangers. McKinlay flicked it up. Would love to see that one again - it was nearly the most incredible goal of all time.

Edit: Found it!

Didn't Mark Reid & Brian McClair do something similar against the huns at Hampden?

Tommy Burns and Choccy ,TB flicked the ball over the wall and Choccy volleyed home
woulld have seen a lot more of it had we gone on to win.

I am quite good at not remembering things like that at the football, right enough. Cheers, thought all those drugs in the 90s had fried me brain.

That's right. Was Willie Carr that flicked it up if I remember correctly. Sad that I am old enough to remember that.

World class skill from a world class player.
Paolo really should have scored from it though.

I'm pretty sure the ruling after that game was that the ball hadn't moved off the spot where the free-kick was taken, ie it had moved vertically only, thus it wasn't legal, whereas the other examples clearly show the ball moving off the spot where the kick was taken.

pretty sure we did something similar vs rangers when they existed in a league cup final.
we lost 3-2 in extra time but we came from 2 behind including a McClair goal after Tommy Burns flicked it over the wall where McClair was waiting to shoot on goal.

I think there was an argument that burns had touched the ball more than once in putting his foot under the ball and flicking it over the wall.

On a minor point, i think the shirts in the 70s were cotton.
In the rain they weighed a ton.

Pretty sure this was the cup tie that Malky and Di Canio scored.
We won 2-0 then went on to blow it against Falkirk after a replay.

Goram was in goals there, whereas the 9IAR clincher they had Dibble in goals.
