You would imagine that by selling Sviatchenko, Gambo and Bitton this summer you would free up close to 30k per week plus a couple million. I would happily swap these 3 for 1 quality player.

Also shifting Allan, Nads and maybe Christie for another half decent player.

The squad has been bloated for far too long

Yeah we have become bloated, but a lot of that bloat has been brought in by BR; Hayes, Gamboa, Compper, Benyu, DDV even Kouassi could be stuck in there too. Our Signing policy has been poor, at best. For the game tomorrow, how many BR signings would be starting if the whole squad was fit on current form? 1 maybe (Ntcham), but even at that I'd still argue a case for a fully fit Armstrong over Ntcham.

On the one hand BR has bemoaned the fact that we've played 60 competitive games this season, and that obviously stretches the squad. However, on the other hand you could say we've put considerable resources, both time and money, into bringing a dud CB (x2?) and a CAM, whilst we have 1 LB, who is still young and learning and 1 RB with a history of injury problems. We had no cover for either of the fullbacks, forced to play a 3 at the back system which just didn't suit when we were inevitably caught short. That's totally unacceptable in my opinion, for a club of our size.

Bitton is staying if he's to be believed.

Wouldn't be against Bitton staying to be honest. Can do a job at the back domestically if needs absolutely must, plus he's one of our better ball retainers in Europe. I'd have a good six or seven ahead of him on the get rid list.

Nothing agreed but it would be the most likely move I'd say.
Sounds like Leicester are getting the better deal there. Presumably a hefty sum plus a talented, homegrown player in exchange for a wantaway whose form has fluctuated since their title winning season and will likely warm the City bench.
Mahrez absolutely destroyed us in pre-season. Looked different class from everyone on the pitch. Even though I really enjoy watching Roberts he doesn't have penetration of Mahrez.

Seems to fit pretty well when they play three at the back. He adds to offense with wider range of passing out of defense.

The Newcastle Chronicle has us after Mbemba from Newcastle, 23 year old CB. I think we've been linked with him before.
someone on the hb tonight about mbemba

Deal is very close, from an excellent source..

£10m quoted can’t be anywhere near correct if this is the case.

When it comes to transfer fees, I suppose you can never discount the brass neck of either an English Premier League club in this stupid era, or one owned by Mike Ashley. As a rule of thumb, in January Newcastle recouped £3.5m of the £5m they paid for Grant Hanley.

There seems to be a bit of dubiety about what they paid for him. Different reports seem to range from £8-11m.

He is out of contract in 2020 and hasn't been in a line up since late January, and that was for one second string FA Cup tie. £10m would completely rule us out I reckon.

We won't be paying £10m for a player anytime soon.

I read that Newcastle paid 9m for him and appears they now want to get shot of him so I'd have thought they'll listen to offers below what they paid out.

As bad as Brendan's recruitment has been, he's also tying down a lot of our better player long term.

Armstrong of last season was more effective and contributed more in just about every department than Ntcham of this season. The problem is the chances of ever getting that level of performance back are pretty slim and it's fairly clear he won't be at Celtic long term. I don't know if that has as much to do with fitness as it does a desire to move down south.
