I am more suspicious at the apparent auto-correctability of Lee Congerton's surname on many a keypad, giving us a nice wee cabal in that recruitment department.

Congreton, Congleton and Congerton. Is this the fabled Transfer Committee? :comp:

Where are folk getting this info about Compper. I've heard he's a diddy, slow as eff, sicknote etc. Is it not likely that we might just be holding off until we win the league before we experiment by starting a defender who we signed 4 month ago and was injured for 2 of them?

I mean you'd think we'd have scouted him if Compper himself was surprised by how much Rodgers knew about him. I doubt he's sussed he's a diddy from a 60 minute spell against Morton where he didn't do anything wrong, and in training.

Obviously this doesn't explain why Hendry has played far more. Hendry seems to mostly play when Lustig is injured or comes off, leading me to believe Hendry was signed to be in the right of a back 3/RB, lustig backup/future replacement, with an more attacking RB to come in the summer to replace Gamboa (another question mark here, but again i think Rodgers just thinks he isn't committed enough.)

I think the only reason this guy hasn't been involved is that Rodgers just shows too much loyalty to players that have shown real desire to stay in the team, and have played most games in his quest for a double treble. If Boyata got injured and Compper came in, and played a decent couple of games like Bain did, Boyata would come back in once fit. With all his weaknesses and bomb scare tendencies, he's still done wonders in big games for us, and in Rodgers mind deserves to finish the season off.
Once we've won the league, i could see us making a few experiment in the league in the run in to the cup final, where Boyata will play and hopefully play his last game, or at least as a starter.

He seems to be playing anyone but him though.

Not sure about the hints at something happening in Dubai though, given the Morton appearance was in March.

Interesting name.

Every window we should try to find 1 or 2 of these highly rated youth players who haven't quite cut it yet/need a step up. There are so many around.

The rumour is (emphasis on rumour - those on this board with better info than me feel free to correct if this isn't the case) that he wasn't scouted properly. He wasn't looked at because he wasn't playing and the recommendation was based on performances many moons ago.

Whether the above is true or not I don't know. There is clearly something amiss however if he can't make the bench of a defence as poor as ours.

25 million and a couple of dozen changing room bust ups. Either up here would be a risk. Both would be disastrous.

Mitrovic is a good player but operates on a very short fuse. He would be suspended a lot up here. It won't happen anyway. £13m??? Pedro would choke on his cornflakes at the idea!

I've no idea how people can detail a list of positions and reasons why we're needing guys in to fill them and casually mention a back up for KT as a maybe. Him being knackered and not fully rested for most of the season has taken away a major part of our attacking threat from last season and, most likely, kept him from doing his defence job to the best of his abilities as well. A backup LB is 2nd only to a first choice CH for me over the summer.

You've got to admire this lad's tenacity, but I could claim to be Scottish football's man in the MLS/Brasileirao/Liga MX and pick several players to enhance our squad, and it would have just as much chance - zero - of becoming a reality.

We may have quite a few problems to solve in the squad. But increasingly our biggest issue is the parallel objective of CL qualification at a time when clubs, agents and players are willing to play the long dance until the end of the window. This is especially acute this summer as it is clear that a good number of players have to go, and another group of starting XI worthy players will probably be looking to go.

It'll be another two month long sandstorm as we try and tiptoe through the minefields of Azerbaijan, Norway, Israel or wherever.

There's a solution to that.

Use the January window as our priority transfer opportunity, or at least begin our scouting and discussions much earlier.

We scrape around at the end of the window, because that's what we do.

Jack Hendry missed Dubai, because we refused to meet Dundee's valuation early in the window & then farted about for ages, to eventually pay the asking price anyway.

The January window is not a good value window to be operating in. Far fewer players want to move, there's less than half the amount of time to get something done, and the brinkmanship from clubs and agents moves up a few notches affecting fees and salaries.

In short, we will never bring in as many players in January as we do in July/August for all of these reasons.

We can use January for short term necessities like GK cover when Gordon gets injured. Or we can use it to bed someone in over half a season with a view to them being settled by the time of the qualifiers.

The fact that Jack Hendry missed a week's trip to Dubai is not what is going to make or break his Celtic career. In fact, it is not in the top 20 things that might do so. People may not agree with him as a signing, but the start to his Celtic career is not a consequence of missing Dubai. Compper went to Dubai and has played less, partly because he was injured out there.
