Could've been worse could've been better. Hopefully Musonda gives us a bit of creativity. I imagine Hendry and Bain will see little game time and we will have to see with Commper.

Hopefully Rogic and Roberts are back soon to boost us with that creative spark as well.

I feel like we've improved the squad, IMO that's got to be a positive.

If Compper is still a good quality centre-back, then it's been a decent window.

Bain is a solid keeper and if we sign him permanently then he'll be a solid back-up to Gordon. Morgan and Hendry are good young players with the potential to blossom into better ones.

Musonda is a player of undoubted quality and will add to our attack - a front four of him, Dembele, Sinclair and Forrest/Roberts could be absolutely incredible on the counter, which is what we need to compete in the Europa League this season and the Champions League next.

I'm worried about Gordon, and our defence is still unimpressive even if Compper improves it, but we've edged a little forward. We can afford windows like this every so often, but it puts some extra pressure on the summer window to be a big success.

At this stage, I'm a little worried about Congerton. None of our signings in either of the last two windows have been particularly imaginative - and we've been left scrapping around for loans from the Premier League. To make big jumps forward we need to be taking more risks on unproven players, and I don't see that happening at the moment.

We'd have taken Musonda sooner if we could. Can't see us signing the likes of Compper before now either. He's potentially a great find if he settles.

Maybe best to have this thread pinned?

It's the 2nd of February and I am still automatically clicking on the January transfer window thread every time I am online.

Force of habit and all that

Somehow I don't think we would pay £1.2m with a four and a half year deal and give him little game time. Rodgers has pursued Hendry all window therefore he must see something in him to become a first team player

I think it would be objective to think it likely that Commper will be a regular.

I think Brendan had the idea of him been the left sided centre back and was expecting to loose Jozo who by all accounts was been touted by his agent.

I'm happy big Jozo has stayed I rate him the higest of all our centre backs and if he can be protected he can be a key man in the second part of the season.

The board need to take credit for the window a keeper for free who might become a useful number two or even better down the line as he is a free agent in the summer.

It will freshen up the goalkeeping area in the club and mean Gordon will strive as fast as he can to make a quick return to join in.

I Think Commper is a clever signing he has plenty of experience and by all accounts was looking very good over in Dubai before his injury.

Musonda is a super coop by the board its looking likely we will loose Paddy so to have this guy instead is a major plus point and hearing that Newcastle West ham WBA and stoke were all interested means we did well.

Hendry is one that Rodgers has singled out for a while and obv wanted him so I'm not going to knock the great mans judgement on that one.
People say ohhh he signed Johnny Hayes is he a good judge of spl players well Hayes was probably coming into a bit of form before the injury and he was always going to be decent back up to Sinclair who had played so many games last season and was starting to look jaded.

Morgan is probably the hottest young property in the SPL and despite being a former Rangers/Sevco boy he chose to come here which tells you all you need to know about Rodgers and Celtic as a club now.

I can't wait for the rest of the season now...Hibs last sat was poor but roll on Killie sat depite that stupid fecking plastic pitch!

Tough crowd.

Not imaginative? Ntcham and Musonda look pretty imaginative to me. And I would not say we were scrapping about when we got that deal.

Unproven players? We have just bought two young unproven players, who Brendan clearly thinks can be developed into something special (although many have already written them off  ) Is the problem that they are Scottish unproven players?

The scouting/recruitment seems to be around fringe players at cash rich clubs, it`s almost identical to one used by the Sevilla DOF relatively successfully. He knew English clubs in particular were paying over the odds for guys who were unlikely to feature heavily and brought some to Spain on reduced terms and fees. They supplement that with their own academy and locally sourced players.

It`s a perfect and only feasible model for us these days. The idea that there are dozens or even a handful of unscouted, unpolished 23-28 year old, CL ready gems, in lesser leagues is unrealistic. Most decent leagues have been scouted to death and we are picking up players at younger ages due to this.

Do we think we have the funds in place to secure Paddy & Edouard on permanents in the summer?

What's that about £15m?

EDIT: If Moussa went, then I guess we would.

A week ago it was panic stations. We looked like we weren't going to splash the cash and tbh we still haven't really?

The loan signing is what it is. He isn't our player but we will use him and be better for it.

Few projects signed and an experienced defender. Happy enough with what we have. Hopefully the 2nd half of the season, we can limit the injuries to key players as the whole first half of the season we have literally been littered with injured players/players returning/players breaking down again etc.

The Summer window is probably where we will see our main changes made. A few positions that need upgrading as well as players hitting the worthless or sell date in their contracts.
All that makes sense but unfortunately with us it is always the next window

We've heard it all before, January is a hard window to get quality, Summer is hard because of the wait and see most adopt till end of the window then fees go right up

We have glaring deficiencies in defence that have not been addressed over last 2 windows and whether it is an all summer pursuit of PR7 or Charly bhoy coming in whilst these are great no one will think so when our defence gets a roasting as per usual

We need a new keeper - when Gordon returns expect that to be shelved once more

We need a quality right back -

We need another quality CB - neither boyata (who is a bombscare v quality) nor Jozo (who should have been punted on basis of astana no show alone) will do and a kid from Dundee nor Ajer (who struggled against conor effin sammon)are going to be good enough for cl

And KT needs back up

And we are not moving enough people out of squad who are not part of future - gamboa, boyata, jozo, armstrong

Spot on Sev

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Pedant

We need a new number 1 keeper and Rodgers was happy to go out and sign Scott Bain. It shows that Rodgers doesn't see a new #1 goalie as a priority.
It showed we had 72hrs from Craig’s injury to find a replacement . Long term we may well be looking for something better than Gordon. Signing Bain was an emergency signing .
Craig Gordon's 35 - I don't believe for a minute that we've not already been scouting for a replacement keeper. There must be a list of potential replacements that the manager and scouts already have and his injury could have been taken as a prompt to go out and get a new #1 in from that list. Instead, we rely on our number 2 and bring in a backup to him. It looks like come next season, Gordon's still going to be our #1

I was becoming concerned about our poor form recently, but feel we are now in a very strong position to win another treble. There were a few players who were thinking they would get away in January, but will now have to knuckle down and impress any potential suitors if they are to get a move in the summer. If they fall out of favour and are sitting on the sidelines clubs will soon look elsewhere.
Add to that the fact that competition for places has been ramped up and means performances are sure to improve. Musonda can play any of the 3 positions behind the striker and therefore puts pressure on all our forwards. Compper and Hendry will mean a real scrap for 3 of our 4 defensive positions and the positive showings by Kouassi and Edouard against Hearts means nobody(except Tierney) can be sure of their place.
I'm luvin it.

If we do have a target to replace CG then its quite possible they wouldn't be available in January - Bain is definitely a stop-gap but hopefully we get a keeper who can replace him in summer.
