January is looming & with Brendan already highlighting (pressuring the Board?) the importance of the window, we really need to get work done quickly. EL participation & CL qualifiers (all being well).
Apparently offered Dovbyk, the free contract Ukrainian 20 year old striker a deal, which if done - see's him join in January?
Common sense sees him pushing past Edouard (£6m PSG) as a 3rd choice development striker?

Rodgers has publically questioned Jozo & his reliability for selection, he doesn't look like he fancies Erik either - possibly for similar reasons?

Gamboa appeared, had a mare & disappeared fairly quickly - Ralston is probably ahead of him? Calvin Miller has stated in interview that Brendan sees him as #2 LB to KT, that's most likely 3 very young fullbacks in the squad.

Henderson hasn't even made the bench, Ajer has done well when given a chance.

So, a striker in for free & saving us £6m (if we went for Edouard at the reported fee).
Possibly 2 international CBs leaving.

We've an incredibly young squad, considering we're a treble winning, CL participating squad. We also have a high number of homegrown Celtic players & other Scottish players. I can see us being very interested in John McGinn, especially if we moved on Bitton & Henderson.

GK: Scottish 1st choice, homegrown 3rd choice - probably stick with this I'd imagine until Hazard develops.

FB: 1 homegrown starter, 2 homegrown backups. Lustig to get a new contract I'd guess. Stick.

CB: Boyata is wanted on a new contract, apparently stalling? But #1 choice. Ajer & Bitton as backup if Jozo & Erik leave? Severely lacking & needing international standard CBs, at least 2.

Rest of the team seems settled & gives us plenty of options. Again, a fairly high number of homegrown & Scottish players - either as starters or backup.

In: 2 CBs, 1 CF (maybe McGinn?)
Out: Gamboa, Jozo, Erik, Henderson

PS: Bored with international week.

Seriously?
Can't see it being so drastic... Never know though.

Think there will be a few more departures than you do. Also think the goalie needs changed, Roberts and Armstrong will need replaced.

Could add a left back in there to be honest also

In terms of priority:

1. Centre Back
2. Goalie (if we're still in Europe)
3. Full Back (RB with the ability to cover at LB)

Not going to happen in January but those areas will need addressed in the summer if they aren't in the next window. Dembele and Armstrong will be away and Roberts is only on loan atm. I'm only expecting a CB in January.

Henderson hasn't even made the bench

He came on as a sub when we played Dundee last month.

Agreed that they need looked at, especially with such a young squad (FB & Sinclair cover - Johnston).

I have been going on for ages, how important January is to us, I wonder if we would be prepared to combine both Jan/Summer window's transfer kitty (if such a thing exists) into one & splurging this mid-season transfer window & Next season's Summer window now?

We've almost already met this season's objective by almost qualifying for the EL after Xmas, after finishing 3rd in the CL. This was with a very, very makeshift defence.
I don't see us wanting to run that gauntlet again next season, now that we're building some momentum & that it'll be even more difficult (Extra leg).

Could we combine the funds & get in the players now? Which would further our chances in Europe after Xmas & also bed the players in for CL qualifiers. Essentially the summer window is for that anyway, so just bring it forward to now & get additional benefit.

We've not spent much so far really & had 2 CL campaigns & possibly 1 EL (or more) knock out - that's seriously punching above our weight & deserves extra help to even continue, never mind improve.

I was working & missed it.

Anyway - punt in a swap deal + cash for McGinn.

McGinn - naw

He's not any better than what he have.

Looked out his depth in the Scotland game recently.

The problem with that is having a bloated squad and wasting wages. We can't bring in another striker, no point trying to replace Armstrong while hes still here and we already have too many MF's. I'd be happy keeping the squad together and having a real crack at the EL then bringing in replacements in the summer. Not ideal for the CL qualifiers but I'd be confident getting through with Ntcham, Griffiths and Forrest instead of Dembele, Armstrong and Roberts.

I really can't see us bringing in more than one CB in January.

McGinn has impressed me more for Hibs than Armstrong had for DU. I'm definitely warming to the idea of signing him next summer.

Calvin Miller not a genuine replacement Kingslim if KT gets crocked?

Think we need to take a serious look at me this time round.

I'm 52 and my knees and hamstrings are beginning to play up.

Only so long I can remain at my peak.

Not a priority but you've got to think Vorm will be fed up playing second fiddle. Hope we ask the question.

Goalie, Centre Mid, Winger, Centre Half.
I think that over the next 2 transfer windows is more likely (except I think we'd need to add another CH to that list) than in January. We never tend to bring in more than a couple of serious players in Jan and I don't see this season being any different despite Brendan's pressuring of the board.

We're in a lucky position that our squad is young and, CHs aside, pretty well balanced. The main issue we have is that 3 of our starting 11 are definitely coming towards the last few seasons of their careers and we don't have replacements ready made yet (although who'd have seen KT so rapidly becoming the Izzy replacement?). I have high hopes for Ralston and would love for him to take his chances of which I think there will be plenty over the next few months so you never know.

Jozo is great when fit but I think it's becoming increasingly apparent that his fitness will never be as consistent as what we need in a 50/60 game season. Boyata is stalling on a contract and Erik hasn't kicked a ball in anger with any certainty for almost a year. I think we'd be stupid not to bring in as good a CH as we possibly can in January. I don't see Dembele leaving until the summer (which is a gutter but I'm happy that he'd have given a smashing 2 seasons by then) and Roberts is probably out of our reach then too. I really hope Armstrong has a change of mind in the next 6 months and signs a longer contract as it'd be a bugger replacing him I think. McGinn isn't anywhere near him.

Funny to think that we're unbeaten and have won the treble but still need to pursue fairly big changes over the next year.
