Always thought Matt McGlone was a roaster. This pretty much confirms it.

Waddelll not happy with Celtics signings.
Celtic need new signings if they are to move forward and Odsonne Edouard is not enough - Gordon Waddell Gordon reckons standing still is not an option for the champions as they chase eight-in-a-row.
Spoiler: click to toggle ByGordon Waddell If you’re standing still you’re going backwards. The quote has been attributed to everyone from Winston Churchill to Lauren Bacall – but it is no less of a football truism for it. And it’s the big challenge facing Celtic as their Champions League fate awaits them on Tuesday. They’ve been content to keep a firm lid on it for the month since they made history with their double Treble, vanishing off the radar and doing nothing overtly in the marketplace. Content to let their neighbours across the river get on with the heavy lifting because, let’s face it, they were so far short they had to. Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has been busy already But Celtic need to recruit. If not to stay ahead of the opposition – they almost certainly will, even with what they have – then to satisfy the 53,000 fans who have shelled out for season tickets to see a treble Treble in the making. Make no mistake, standing still now isn’t an option. Even the formal signing of Odsonne Edouard, impressive record fee or not, doesn’t feel like a giant leap. It’s spending we haven’t seen from them in two decades – but he has been there a year. His potential is already a factor in their success. Nor does signing Scott Bain on a long-term deal, even though he’s a decent upgrade on Dorus De Vries as a back-up. Another who was already there. They’ve also traded out Patrick Roberts’ loan deal for the permanent arrival of a top talent in Lewis Morgan in the same position. So Celtic have tied up the loose ends. There’s also the exit door to consider though. Have the club invested in Edouard because cash is expected for Moussa Dembele? Would you spend £9million if you were actually intending to fend off interest again? And they’re also inviting offers for Stuart Armstrong, their go-to middle-to-front playmaker and best game-changing backup if he’s fit, because they don’t want to see him go for nowt next summer when there’s a good five or six million in him just now. Again, for me, rock-solid judgment and strategy – but it won’t move them forward when they’re three weeks away from the first of eight matches in 49 days that will, as usual, define their season. The first of the four potential rounds will present no issues but in the second they could end up with Red Star Belgrade, Rosenborg, Hapoel Be’er Sheva, PAOK, Sturm Graz, none of whom would be a pushover. And it will only get harder. Peter Lawwell once said he banked on Celtic making the group stage in three seasons of every five. But there’s a sense of belonging these days under Brendan Rodgers and it will be hard to take if, one year, they don’t make it. They need centre-halves for starters. Kristoffer Ajer is all potential, Dedryck Boyata still registers far too often on the bombscare meter, despite his clear qualities, and Jozo Simunovic is burst when they face six games at least on plastic pitches. Marvin Compper was signed from Leipzig to bring experience but all the noises behind the scenes suggest his signing hasn’t worked out as they’d hoped. His lack of fitness and appearances are testimony to that. Add it all up? It’s inconceivable that Celtic aren’t going to be busy next month. They head to their Austrian camp next weekend and there’s absolutely no sense there’s anything other than flat calm in their hierarchy. The fact they’ve spent more on their stadium light-and-sound rig than Rangers have on any individual player might even be a source of amusement to some. But there’s no point in having fireworks off the pitch if there is none on it. They’re still massive favourites at 1/10 to make it eight-in-a-row. Even their current team should be good enough to achieve that, although Rangers appear to have done some solid work in their recruitment. But last season Celtic took 24 fewer points and scored 33 fewer goals than the previous year, albeit the 2017 invincible season was a highwater mark in history. They also started the Scottish Cup Final against Motherwell with nine players Rodgers inherited from Ronny Deila. Only two of his recruits, Olivier Ntcham and Moussa Dembele, were in that starting XI at the end of his second full season in charge. He has improved all of those inherited players, some beyond recognition, and there’s a lot to be said for stability – but we go back to the original quote Complacency can settle on you like an invisible cloak without you even realising it sometimes. With everything we know about Rodgers, though, it won’t be allowed to happen. He uses a great phrase about the culture he creates, that it makes his players allergic to complacency. With six trophies from six, it’s impossible to counter that. But you get the feeling even he won’t be satisfied with having to trot out that mantra to the same XI he ended last term with. If that doesn’t test your mettle, or that of your new recruits, then nothing will. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/celtic-need-new-signings-move-12723135

Interesting that he describes Lewis Morgan as a “top talent” and seems to be implying he’s a like for like replacement for Paddy Roberts. I’m assuming he’s seen a lot more of Morgan than I have so that certainly sounds promising.

I reckon we'll see three tranches of activity. Probably another player or two before the 'season' starts, a couple (maybe some loans) around the EPL's new deadline (like it or lump it, it seems to be Brendan's favourite market and once the squads are locked there will be players essentially locked out for the season and having to make decisions), and maybe some more towards the September deadline depending on European qualification.
It's frustrating but given the market realities and what some really average players are going for, we're always going to be pretty reactive and bargain hunters.

What’s the new EPL deadline? Is it something new this year? They're closing their window earlier to coincide with the league starting on 9th August, ours is still open until the 31st.

 Thank God for the dilligence of this reporter. Rodgers and Lawwell have been resting on their laurels for too long, it's high time they were reminded how to do their jobs.

More or less saying what we’re all saying - that to move forward we need better defenders. Interesting that he describes Lewis Morgan as a “top talent” and seems to be implying he’s a like for like replacement for Paddy Roberts. I’m assuming he’s seen a lot more of Morgan than I have so that certainly sounds promising. He fails to mention how young our squad is, and how much further it’s still to develop.

Waddelll not happy with Celtics signings. Waddell says ''although Rangers appear to have done some solid work in their recruitment.''
have they?
a mistake-prone getting on a bit championship keeper who is no better than what they've already got;
an alright canada midfielder/burnley bench warmer who is no better than what they've got;
and 2 centre-halves and a liverpool loan player that none of us, including waddell, have ever seen play
still, solid work

Sevco have not improved one iota from the embarrassment for them that was last season and there is a long way to go in the window, regardless.
Just to repeat, Aberdeen - our nearest rivals - and Sevco could not keep up with us on our C game for most of last season and utterly capitulated to us on our A-B game.
They haven't improved, they haven't even kicked a ball.
