The wee man is hilarious. I was in his company at a function not long ago and he had us all in stiches. Still needle sharp at his age and does a lot behind the scenes at Celtic Park
When he met Ronnie Osullivan recently I was in stitches...Ronnie was too - you can find it online! I dont know Bertie only met him once or twice but street smart & wise probably does not begin to cover it from me watching from afar. Swatted Der Hun media a dillion here. Is this not 'dull yin'?

Michael O'Neill being sleekit and talking to the press with something that is not true. Martin O'Neill hits out at Michael O'Neill for not voicing 'Catholic' recruitment claims privatelyThe Republic and Northern Ireland managers have enjoyed a positive relationship but the ex-Celtic boss was less than impressed with his counterpart's comments. Spoiler: click to toggle BySteve Beacom Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill wasn't happy with the comments Republic of Ireland boss Martin O’Neill has revealed he was ‘very disappointed and surprised’ by comments from Northern Ireland counterpart Michael O’Neill criticising the FAI’s recruitment policy. Under FIFA rules players born in the North can play for the South and this week in an interview in an Irish newspaper former Dundee United and Hibs ace O’Neill slammed the FAI for being selective in their approach claiming that they target Catholics to switch allegiance to the Republic. O’Neill, who rejected the chance to become Scotland boss before Alex McLeish was appointed, added that he wanted to secure a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with the ex-Celtic boss to ensure the FAI would not pursue 17 to 21 year-old players who have already represented the IFA. The O’Neills have enjoyed a positive relationship during their time in charge of the respective Irish sides but clearly Martin, who captained Northern Ireland in the 1982 World Cup finals, was not amused by Michael airing his views on the controversial issue and felt he should have spoken to him privately before going public on the matter. “I met him at a game recently, Fulham played at Craven Cottage and we had a very convivial conversation. He never mentioned these particular points. I wish he had done, privately,” said O’Neill, who won numerous trophies at Celtic and took the club to the 2003 UEFA Cup final. “So, it came as a surprise. I’m the spokesperson for the Association (FAI), particularly at senior level and I’m disappointed at the comments and I’ve told him (Michael) that. Really disappointed. “I don’t think it’s an accurate portrayal of my time (as boss). In fact, it’s not true at all. I’ve had a conversation with him since and he has admitted that I have not taken a single player from him; in fact, quite the opposite. I think he has taken Alex Bruce (from the Republic) during my time so I’ve not taken one senior player at all. “There’s no problem having a conversation about underage if that’s the case. But, to actually talk about religion, to bring religion into it – it’s very disappointing. “I played for Northern Ireland 60 odd times, was captain loads of times, probably one of the most successful periods where we had both Catholics and Protestants who played and we had great camaraderie.” Northern Ireland’s O’Neill, 48, feels FIFA’s rules on this issue, which were specifically made after the Good Friday Agreement, are unfair. The rules have allowed the likes of WBA’s James McClean and Brighton’s Shane Duffy to come through IFA ranks before going on to play senior international football for the Republic. A meeting on the thorny subject is possible between the O’Neills in the months to come, but the FAI, adamant they are not breaking any rules, have no plans to enter into any gentleman’s agreement. The ex-Leicester and Sunderland boss made the point that ultimately the decision to play for North or South is down to the player. “I have no problem with sitting down and talking about this,” said the elder O’Neill, speaking in Dublin yesterday after announcing his Republic squad for a friendly in Turkey on March 23. “But it’s not as if to say that we are lifting a load of players from them at underage level and preventing them from doing something. “The player has the choice. I think that is very important and something that’s been overlooked in this. They’re not being coerced into doing this. They’re being asked. And if I was a player and two nations were looking for me, I think that I’d be kind of overjoyed about that, I must admit.” O’Neill added that the FAI would refute any suggestion they only targeted Catholics and remarked: “I couldn’t emphasise enough that I have never chosen a player other than on merit. That will always be the case.” https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/martin-oneill-hits-out-michael-12155186 Michael O'Neill doesn't come away looking good in this. Our O'Neill is absolutey right.

Well said Bertie. It's a pity some of the younger ex-footballers couldn't come out and say something like this. SAME AULD Celtic legend Bertie Auld takes swipe at Rangers idol Graeme Souness for saying Light Blues win would be ‘good for Scottish football’The Lisbon Lion, 79, reckons former Ibrox boss Souey was just jealous of Celtic’s success with his comments Spoiler: click to toggle By Alex Gordon BERTIE AULD claims Graeme Souness was talking nonsense by claiming an Old Firm win for Rangers on Sunday would be good for Scottish football. The Lisbon Lion, 79, reckons former Ibrox boss Souey was just jealous of Celtic’s success with his comments — and insists his old club will do their talking on the pitch. Auld said: “Why would a victory for them give our football a boost? “It’s obvious Souness doesn’t like the fact Celtic are dominating the Scottish game at the moment. His nose is probably out of joint. “My old club deserve everything that has come their way since Brendan Rodgers took over as manager. “They have helped raise the standard of the domestic game and we shouldn’t lose sight of that. “I’m sure other teams have benefited from the professional attitude of Celtic and attempted to match them. “Now that’s good for our game. “Rodgers’ team is on the brink of history and they have worked very hard to reach this stage. “To have gone through an entire season on the home front unbeaten is simply phenomenal. “No one can say a record like that is a fluke. “Three trophies in the bag and the club’s first clean sweep since Martin O’Neill achieved the feat in 2001. “So, we should be applauding the efforts of my old club instead of hoping they are derailed. “What the club have been doing is something very special and they could be unique at the end of the term if they win back-to-back trebles. “Souness, of course, is entitled to his opinion, but I don’t think we should be too puzzled as to why he would make those comments. “Remember, he’s a former Rangers player and manager, so we all know which angle he is coming from. “For me, I hope the better team win at Ibrox — and I’m convinced it will be Celtic. “Biased? Yes, you better believe it. Blinded by loyalty to my former club? No chance. “I look at Celtic and I see better quality players who are also used to these sort of games. “Rodgers may be without several players who might have started at Ibrox, such as Stuart Armstrong and Leigh Griffiths, two of my favourites. “They’ll be in the stand on Sunday, but I think Celtic will be able to replace them without breaking stride. “I reckon Celtic are better with them but even without them they should carry too much firepower for Rangers. “It was interesting to read that Graeme Murty’s men roared with joy when they heard Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final draw that paired them with the holders. “It’s been so long since they have beaten Celtic they must be working on the law of averages that it will be their turn soon. I wouldn’t bet on it.” https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/2336727/graeme-souness-bertie-auld-celtic-rangers-good-for-scottish-football/

Commons is a nice guy but not the brightest, like many footballers He comes across as rather slow and ponderous in his deliberations, even when being fed simple questions. He wants to please his new employers, many of whom at Sky are old school Huns. He probably isn’t aware that he is being used, if we do the business on the park then his mutterings will be shown up for what they are, pish He knows exactly what he is doing and is an utter floof.

They were rewarded by getting skelped off hibs on the pitch and in the stands in the final, a team who hadn't won it in over a century. We got Brendan Rodgers.

Andy Walker in the Hun today , good grief !! utter absolute nonsense ( don't know how to post it here sorry )
Champion pish talker that one...you would think he was up front for Ross County 20 years ago the severe lack of ever sticking up for Celtic.... And the fact he is clueless when commentating on anything related to football. He knows a tight ankle when he sees one though...

so when we progressed against Benfica in 1970 by the toss of a coin, after the 3 - 3 aggregate, did we beat Benfica or just progress? A toss of a coin is pure luck. A penalty shootout is anything but. It involves skill, handling pressure, goalkeeping ability, decision making, managerial decisions (choosing who to take them, what order) etc, etc. They beat us on penalties. We’ve since beat them six times in open play so I think it’s fair to say we’ve had the last laugh.

We've had a full week of tubthumping and all-out psychological warfare on Sevco's behalf; it's reminiscent of the build-up to the 1969 SCF against Deidco... anyone remember the result?
I hope we effing rag-doll their midfield and leave a few stud-marks in there for good measure. I always want to bury those , but I haven't wanted a win - against either incarnation - this badly in many, many years. Just effing do them, Celtic.
