Getting safe standing was a hard sell but the club was able to get it done and others in the UK may follow. I just don't see the reason why rugby fans can and football fans can't. If the beer sold was as expensive as it is in the states, you'd need to be minted to get pished on it.

As I said, for games where there could be trouble- sevco, european games or maybe even hearts...don't sell it.

I think it is a gold mine. Not saying people buy multiple beers but say even 10,000 buy a beer or 2 per game at 5 pound a beer, its a nice earner. Im sure tennents, magners etc would happily strike up a deal. I have no idea how many in the crowd currently buy pies etc and how many are over 18. Could also incentivise season tickets by making only them able to buy it, via their card (bill them later). Would help with under age drinking and to track if any trouble happens. Maybe move the turnstyles further out like murrayfield and create a fenced in outdoor area to drink and for people to gather.

I think this would make celtic money but think it would be massive for other teams in the league.

Worth a trial at least, if celtic can convince the government.
A fiver a beer  ffs its bad enough paying £3 in your local .
You obviously haven't had a Guinness in the Kerrydale Lounge then !

"Increased admin costs, additional staff, anti-terrorism measures"
Celtic should be pushing the Scottish government to sell beer at games at the kiosks. When the alcohol ban was introduced, beer wasn't sold at the ground, it was people bringing in carry outs and getting jaked (even then that was just an excuse used). I think this law should be revisited with a 21st century perspective. Rugby fans can drink at a ground no bother, what makes them better than football fans.

I think it would be a nice earner for the club (and other SPL teams) and encourage people to go to the ground earlier rather than the pubs nearby, in turn probably buying other things at the stadium. No doubt it'd be piss water like Carling or Tennents and probably be about 5 quid a pint but I think people would still buy it.

If there are legit concerns about it, don't sell the beer for Glasgow derbies. I doubt people would get pished on the beer anyway if it was 5 quid a pint.

why would you pay £5 a pint that would cost around £3 in any other public bar

Is it not about £4.50 - £5 in the hydro.

I'd imagine if we were allowed it would be at that going rate for events?... no discount for warm flat beer either!

Plenty do

Anyway if pints are ever sold in the CP concourse I’d be surprised if you got change from a fiver, £4.50+ seems to be going rate at similar events with a captive audience.

Alcohol at football needs to be the next logical step. In the last 7 years I could count on 1 hand the amount of people I have seen falling about at Craven Cottage hammered and I am sure that they would have been hammered before they got in so I doubt an over priced weak lager would have changed much. A normal day at the football for me used to be meeting a few mates in a pub in Putney which would be absolutely rammed because of the football. Trying to watch a game on the TV with people bumping into young queuing for ages at the bar. We would then head off about 2.30, if we have time a quick beer in the stadium and another at half time.

Now we meet at Craven cottage and watch the early kick off at the stadium and have a couple of beers standing by the river. Much nicer, more relaxed and before 2.15pm the beers are £3.50 instead of £4.50 after 2.15. If you can get people into the stadium earlier you have much better opportunity to sell quality food (fulham have had hog roast rolls, craft beer, sour dough pizza stands at different times) and a better match day experience.

The worst I have seen Craven Cottage was Scotland v Nigeria as the Scotland fans were so surprised to see beer there were more people out in the concourse than there was in the stand. I am sure that a few people would rip the arse out of it at the start however for the vast majority it would be a gradual shift. Some people will stay in pubs, some people drink carry outs, some people will drink in the stadium, we need to have a much more adult relationship with football fans in Scotland. Behaviour has shift over the last 30 years however the perception of football fans has not.

I figured it would be pricey. Its $10 here at games for your buds etc, $12 for your local crafts which would be st mungo etc. People still buy it. Heck in baseball, american football games you'll see people buy beer for the full 3 odd hours.

I've no doubt it may be more expensive than a fiver, especially as the government would want their cut for their buy off, probably in the form of a sporting event sin tax.

I also think there would be that initial novelty factor described above. Unfortunately you'll get people who are pished or plan to get pished regardless or the people who'll end up watching the game in the concourse. There's way to keep people in their seats. Americans have the guys selling beer going up and down the stairs with beer. Cash only, limited selection and I think more expensive than the concourse but it means you don't leave your seat.

We're probably missing out on money for the catering too to the burger vans outside. I've heard some dominos have opened in the stadium? Make the food edible rather than cold pies etc and people will eat it, again even if its pricier. Have Greggs, mcdonalds open up and celtic take a cut?

I know these things are pricier but the biggest complaint is usually that the food is bouffin at the stadium (or lack of access to beer) rather than price. I imagine a lot of people treat home games almost like an event and have spending money set aside, probably for the pub or chippys before/after etc.

Agreed - can only think the guys with the megaphones got a bit too excited.

Overall, the fans made a great difference last night which came from the effort the players put in right from the first minute.

Best night at CP in a long time.

No disrespect to the GB but the Jock Stein stand excelled itself and started loads of songs only to be drowned out by the GB. Please co-ordinate chaps and chapesses.
