That standard issue reply from the SNP MSPs (no doubt issued by their central office) is a complete embarrassment.

And are they really trying to suggest that a) there is no other legislation dealing with bigotry, sectarianism and discrimination on the statute books, and b) that the worst offences take place at football matches? Pure snobbery.

my annoyance with all the replies I've received is the inference that objection to the bill is akin to condoning sectarianism

"There is still the potential to improve and amend it. However, if we repeal the Act, we would be saying that expressing hatred for Catholics, Irish, disabled folk, and ethnic minorities is acceptable. " From SNP MP John Mason.

Naw it wouldny John.

This is the standard cack spouted by the automatons, aka SNP MP's. Well-herded sheep.
If Mason is so concerned about anti Catholic and anti Irish sentiments why doesn't he want to extend the provisions of the Act to Orange marches?

It was common sense that it was repealed, but just wait until Police Scotland get another piece of rushed legislation through.

Harder to do now that the SNP don't have a majority.

For those of us who don't really know much about the process of getting the act repealed - what does this mean and what are the next steps?

It now goes to the committee stage where amendments may be suggested. There will then be a final vote in the Spring.

Unless amendments are made which persuades one of the other 4 parties to vote with the SNP then it's difficult to see how it won't pass.

In the meantime the PF and Police Scotland should bring no further prosecutions under the act. Hope they don't start targeting boys in a last ditch attempt to score points

Did someone from the SNP break ranks? I thought they were looking at it being 64-63?
