I take it people do realise that any contract for sums of money running in to the millions takes time to get over the line?

Even when the basic terms of a transfer deal are agreed in principle you have at least three parties involved - both the buying and selling clubs will have their legal, commercial, finance and purchasing teams going over the small print in detail and trying to negotiate away any clause they don't agree with, and the player's agents and lawyers will be doing the same.

Add in complications of dealing with both French and UK/Scottish legalities on the deal, translation of documents every time something gets updated and the possibility that PSG may view this as priority number 10 out of the 12 deals they are currently working on then it's easy to understand why it might be a wee bit more time consuming and complex than just phoning up PSG and giving them our credit card details.

But we knew months before the end of the season that BR really fancies him as a player, and his exceptional talent has been plain to see.
So we should have been able to hit the ground running with this deal. That the negotiations have dragged on is unexpected. Very reliable posters have been assured that it's as good as done but the longer this goes on inevitably some doubt begins to creep in.

The uk has 4 cities that produced at least two CL/european Cup semi finalists. Without researching, can you name the cities?
Glasgow London Manchester and Liverpool.. quick guess

Didn't read the question right and said Hibs. :(

Surely that ruling puts pressure on PSG to maximise the sale value of its players? If they are to work towards "break even" they cannot afford to let anyone go cheaply, or am I just being thick? ( a fair possibility)
Not sure PSG give a eff about Édouard in the context of raising that sort of money. They’ll sell a few squad players and raise that easily.
A few journalists were saying on L'Équipe TV that the Édouard deal will probably be the complement to one or two bigger deal to pass the 60m bar. Guedes to Valencia, Krychowiak to Seville and Édouard to Celtic.
Talk Verratti is for the off aswell, he’d raise that 60 mill on his own

OE deal obviously isn’t a necessity from PSG point of view but hopefully we see some movement soon

If they had beaten Stade Rheims in the Semi- Final and then gone on to beat Real Madrid in the Final (big "if" I know) we would have had a genuine "Hibs done it first" and they would also won the first European Cup.

That Famous Five must have been quite something - Everyone of them scored over a 100 goals for Hibs - One of my Uncles said that Gordon Smith was the best non Celtic player he had seen.

Why has Lawwell not done the deal yet?. . . . It's called being an good and vastly experienced business man.

https://t.co/4KqVPH0sBQ
PSG could sell a reserve or two and raise that figure. Folk really do overrate Peter Lawwell, and go to desperate measures to big him up. He does his job, but needs to step away from the football side of things and stop interfering - which I believe he will have done once again, should Edouard not be here; Rodgers rates him, as shown in the games he started him in.
Do you honestly think BR would for one moment put up with interference in the football side from PL?

The Famous Five were well past their best by this time, their glory days coming at the end of the 40’s and early 50’s. Aberdeen were the Scottish Champions in the preceding season.

The Famous Five never played together until October 1949 - Johnstone was away mid 50''s so they were no finished as an entity by then.

League titles in 48, 51, 52 but being placed 5th in the league in 54-55 would suggest they were finished. They were invited to participate in the 8 team inaugural EC. Their semi-final placing isn’t a big deal.

Celtic are optimistic that a permanent deal will be concluded imminently for French striker Odsonne Edouard from PSG.

The Parkhead side have until the 16th June to activate the clause in Edouard’s contract with ongoing negotiations this week between the two parties believed to be fruitful.

Celtic’s cause has been strengthened by the fact that PSG have been told by UEFA’s financial fair play investigation that they need to sell £53m (60m euros) worth of players before the end of this month or else face a penalty for their overspending last year.

European football's governing body introduced FFP 'break-even' rules in 2013, requiring clubs to balance their spending with their revenue. Last season the French giants, owned by the Gulf state of Qatar via its Qatar Sports Investments fund, spent £200m on Brazilian star Neymar while also taking Kylian Mbappe on a loan deal, for which they will pay £167m to Monaco to activate their clause for the player this summer.

However, in order to avoid facing sanctions from UEFA they need to balance their books before the end of this month meaning that there has been a need from PSG’s end to see a swift conclusion to the Edouard deal.

Goncalo Guedes’ sale from PSG to Valenia will make up half of the shortfall – the winger will go to Spain for £31m after a successful loan spell – but the French side still need to make up the remainder between now and 30th June.

That should see Celtic complete their first signing of the summer with the club prepared to break their transfer fee to secure the services of the highly rated French star whom Brendan Rodgers has made no secret of wishing to add to his squad permanently.

Celtic are on the brink of smashing their club record fee to sign Odssone Edouard on a permanent deal.

Record Sport understands an agreement moved closer on Wednesday after the latest round of talks involving the 20-year-old’s representatives and his parent club Paris Saint-Germain.

And Parkhead chief executive Peter Lawwell is now more confident than ever of landing his man ahead of Saturday’s deadline, when a host of other interested clubs would be able to enter the bidding.

It’s understood the French striker has told PSG he sees his future in Glasgow, developing under Brendan Rodgers and is not holding out to consider rival offers.

That has left Celtic in the driving seat as the clock ticks down to the June 16 trigger and Lawwell hopes to have a deal concluded before close of play on Friday.

The size of the final fee is still unclear but it is expected to dwarf the £6million Martin O’Neill splashed out on two separate deals for Chris Sutton and John Hartson almost two decades ago.

The length of Edouard’s Celtic contract is also still to be thrashed out but it’s expected the club will want to tie him up on a bumper five-year deal.

The future of Stuart Armstrong, however, looks certain to be away from Celtic Park after the Scotland midfielder confirmed he hopes to clinch a summer move to England.

It’s understood a number of top flight clubs, headed by Southampton, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Fulham have made initial enquiries as they mull over moves for the 26-year-old.
