According to the Hootsmon, InStat have placed Celtic as the top passing team in European football. Celtic came out top in three different categories which gained them top spot overall.

- Total possession 70.8 %.
- Passing 650 per game.
- Possession duration 23.5 secs.

Sevco are down the list at joint 87th which at first glance may appear creditable until you see that Luxembourg's fourth best team, Progres Neidercorn, are four places better off at no. 83.

Thank you, Brendan.

The stats are outstanding. I for one don't think I'll ever fully appreciate how good we are just now for years to come

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
I think loads of folk do - if someone has an average game and scores a goal, they sometimes get elevated into the top 3 in MOTM posts. Which is fine if you're totally stuck for a 3rd person to put in
I don't believe anyone bases their opinion of a player based on 1 or 2 seconds out of 90 minutes.

Without bogging this thread down too much, it's why I'm not a huge fan of stats. They can tell you loads of things that aren't really true. The stats and numbers tell us Brown wasn't MOTM on Saturday.
Anyone who watched the game is able to tell you otherwise.
In the "Celtic by Numbers" thread as well  Every Sunday I find myself wandering into chapel, shouting "I don't believe in God!"

The comments section to that article is quite funny. Full of English people calling the SPL a pub league. But they are forthrightly reminded that Celtic have been playing that style of football since they were the first British team to win it in '67 and were then copied by others, Man Utd and Liverpool to name but two. And another interesting stat was offered. England have won a grand total of 6 actual World Cup matches since 1966.

In 90 minutes? They won two I think (Egypt 1-0). Drew with Ireland and Holland, beat Cameroon in extra time then Belgium 1-0 with the last kick.

Behind the click bait title, I consider the attacking performances in the 2-0 Ibrox win. Oh, alright and the Bhoy of the Match, to ensure annoying folk. HH

Read the bhoy of the match thread. Really interesting stuff.

I too had Brown as man of the match. The logic of this type of analysis is that it is intended to measure the currency of winning games largely-goals, and what produces them. Brown didn't do a lot of glamorous work but his influence on the game was obvious. He did the dirty work, Armstrong did the flashy stuff-Armstrong doesn't get to do that without Brown.

I wonder how Paul Lambert would have scored on this analysis when he stifled Zinedine Zidane, one of the greatest midfielders ever, to effectively allow Dortmund to win the European Cup?

I noticed Brown slowing the play down at times, just calming things down for us a bit. I imagine that was Rodgers' plan for us to keep control and not just shift it up the park ASAP. Brown would then have a lot more shorter passes in the stats, and a lower, em, impect score. Like I say CBN has mentioned how you can't measure leadership. Or indeed wee sublime moments that the fans love that make players MotM and might not contribute to the xSCR DASR rate and that but get it right up the huns.

You've touched on an important point that it is more difficult to measure defensive actions than attacking. Because good defence is often evidenced by No Action i.e. The avoidance of dangerous events. So I can't measure standing in the right place but standing in the wrong place will be evident from defensive errors and chances created by the oppo.

All that being said I try and collect as many defensive data points as possible. See my site and the Glossary for this . If you read my natch analysis defenders and Brown have been given Man of Match many many times so I don't agree with attacker bias suggestions. Grant me a little credit I do understand eAch player does subtly different jobs ! 👍

Armstrong was excellent I thought. Still would have given MOM to Brown, but Armstrong a close second.

A defensive Belgian champion paid for their errors in a landmark win away for Celtic. Team performance analysis.
