Seemed to be in a hurry to get away from Ajax cape town.

COETZEE NICKED Ex-Celtic target Rivaldo Coetzee arrested in South Africa for speeding just days after joining Mamelodi Sundowns from Ajax Cape Town
The central defender, 20, had agreed a move to Glasgow, only for the Hoops to pull the plug after doubts surfaced about his fitness

By Mark Walker
CELTIC transfer target Rivaldo Coetzee – who failed a medical before his £800,000 move to Parkhead – has been arrested in South Africa for speeding.
The South African international had agreed a move to Glasgow, only for the Hoops to pull the plug after doubts surfaced about his fitness.

He signed instead for homeland side Mamelodi Sundowns in a £500,000 deal, but spent the night after he signed behind bars after being nabbed by local police.
Coetzee, 20, has already appeared in court and will appear again this week.
Sundowns spokesman Thulani Thuswa said: “We are aware of the incident and will support him fully.
“He was actually on his way to hand over documents when this happened and he has been charged with speeding.”
Coetzee signed a five-year deal with Sundowns after his move to Scotland collapsed.

We should make him some sort of pay as you play offer if he's a prospect and really keen to come here.
why the feck would you want to do that , thats just crazy
Because there would be no risk to us, we would only pay him if he was fit to play and featuring.
aye nae bother, good luck with that idea, a pro footballer who only gets paid when he plays , and what about the transfer fee, do we only pay his old club when he plays too

For the money mentioned we should have just taken him as is.........WTF do we have to lose really? At least then we would have control of his rehab..............it can't be that serious the guy has continually played at international level @20yrs age with it ongoing..............

We paid more for Ciftci ffs.
We'd have about £2.2 million to lose, conservatively assuming the fee was £750,000, he was to be on £5,000 per week and we had to expend an extra £2,000 per week on his training, treatment etc. for the next four years.
Indeed. Let his own club get him fit. We pay a small deposit to secure his services once he can be verified as ready.

ffs  hes not a 2nd hand car

Mamelodi Sundowns boss Pitso Mosimane feels Celtic will return for defender Rivaldo Coetzee despite the South Africa international's move to Chloorkop.

Coetzee, 20, was primed for a dream move to the Hoops from Ajax Cape Town in the final days of the transfer window but failed his medical with the Scottish giants due to an irregularity found in a bone of his right foot.

However, with Coetzee now seemingly on the road to recovery earlier than expected and making a move to the Champions of Africa, his new head coach feels Coetzee still has a massive chance of making the step up in Europe.

Celtic targeted the Urban Warrior's graduate due to their shortage of centre-backs, and after failing to sign any of their preferred targets to compete with Jozo Simunovic, Erik Sviatchenko and Dedryck Boyata - midfielder Nir Bitton will continue to feature as an emergency defender.

"Medically his condition will be sorted. He does not have to go through an operation which would rule him out for nine months like everybody said," Mosimane told the Daily Sun.

"He will soon be back, I think three months maybe. The specialist gave us a report and we are happy with the report.

"I think when Brendan Rodgers sees the medical report again, he will be willing to have another look at the player again.

"Football is a game of moments. He is available, you've got to take the chance. Do you want to lose this chance to sign a 20-year-old? Brendan Rodgers speaks so well about the boy because he has been watching his games.

"He possesses international experience Just wait, Rivaldo is a good investment."

Must be something going on.

Everytime I read another report from someone trying to flog us this guy I think, nah - you're fine.

To be fair, if you read the quotes in isolation then it's not completely clear that's what this guy is trying to do. If that was his message tho, there seems to be an unusually concerted effort to sell us this fella.

I'd imagine South African clubs aren't exactly awash with money and he's seeing it as an opportunity to get a hefty transfer fee in.

I think the all time record sale from South Africa was £2 million for Thulani Serero from Ajax Cape Town to Ajax Amsterdam.

South African football appears to be rooked in the same general mold as Scottish football outside us. Whenever Kilmarnock or Motherwell have a £750k caliber player they hoor them to anyone remotely interested too.

Seems very strange to come out with that just a week after he signed the guy. :ponder:
