Rivaldo Coetzee; Update: Unfortunately for the poor guy, it looks like our medical team were right. [p21]

Shame for the kid. Maybe we will revisit it at a later date.

Never quite sure what to make of medicals. The three centre backs we have at the moment are all injury prone yet clearly passed theirs. Guys like Kieron Dyer, Michael Owen and Jonathon Woodgate used to sail through medicals and then spend whole seasons on the treatment table. Then you have the likes of John Hartson and this guy who, according to his club, has missed no football for either club or country yet we've withdrawn from the deal on medical grounds.

Very strange. According to BR this guy has the makings of a really good player. Given the peanuts involved you would think we would take him now even if it meant he was out for a while. Suggests there is a real problem.
Maybe suggests BR knows a CB is desperately needed and can't afford to have another one injured.

We can always come back for him in the future if BR is really in on him.
The fee was meant to be six or seven hundred thousand. We paid more for Ajer to go into the youth setup for a few years. If he is as good as BR said then we would have been happy to pay that even if he couldn't play for a while. That we are not suggests this is a long-term problem.

Shows how unlucky we are with centre backs they get injuries before they even sign. Disappointed with this as he looked a good prospect, feel bad for the player as this could impact on his career.

Liked the look of the lad tbh. I must admit I found the whole announcement from Ajax a bit weird right enough.

Shame for him but if the club saw him as the answer to our centre back problem right now then I feel sorry for the supporters most.

Bit stupid of Ajax to announce the transfer before everything was completed

Could this be why Ajax (Netherlands) didn't want him? I did wonder if there was any reason they had first option but didn't take it up. Probably nothing to do with it, just struck me at the time.

Agree considering they've sold a few recently :suspect:

Hamstrings, thigh strains etc are what Boyata and Erik get.
They don't show up in medicals, as they're wear and tear type things that can affect any player at any time.

Knees (Jozo) and bone issues (Rivaldo) are underlying problems which medicals discover.

Shame for the player.

I understand the science behind it. Just interests me how much weight clubs put on these medical checks when they routinely sign players with extensive track records of hamstring problems which cause them to miss months of football every season.

That's very frustrating.

Sets the stage for someone else to roll the dice and have him turn out to be a superstar, though, doesn't it?

Could it be an insurance thing, maybe? Preexisting conditions and all that jazz?

Would a club sign a player to a four year contract if they can't take insurance on him?

Very much liked the look of how this boy played so I'm gutted about it. Saw mention of a broken foot? Surely if it was that we'd buy him anyway as bones heal while quality remains, as Henrik proved pretty well. Anyone know any more specifics on what the problem was meant to be?

Could well be an insurance thing. This guy, seemingly, was going to cost less than a million pounds so loose change to us in the grand scheme of things. Yet we'd presumably have no qualms about extending Simunovic's contract even though he's missed a huge amount of games since joining and failed a medical at Torino last year.

If i mind rightly it used to be the neighbours that would
sign someone and then find out they were injury prone.
Negri prodan etc.

feel terrible for the guy

according to reports he was delighted to be joining us

but at the end of the day we don't need a daniel prodan situation

anyway it didn't happen on the last day of the transfer window so we have 5 days to go to plan B as it is obvious Brendan has identified that is a position we need to strengthen in

we do have a plan B right :twitch:
