Never heard of him prior to yesterday but seems like a good prospect. Pleased we're strengthening the centre of defence though I suspect this means the end for Sviatchenko.

Seems ok - decent-ish range of passing - didn't think he seemed very quick, and those other SA teams don't seem to like high pressing. He just waltzed passed a load of them with barely any effort.
Climate playing a role in how the teams play?

CELTIC have signed one of the most naturally-gifted defensive prospects for years, according to a South African legend.

The Hoops have snapped up Ajax Cape Town defender Rivaldo Coetzee on an £800,000 deal and he’s set to arrive in Glasgow later this week.

And former Bafana Bafana star and now TV pundit Peter Matshampoose reckons the Scottish champions have secured a star in the making.

He said: “Rivaldo is the type of player everyone wants in their team.

“He has everything needed to succeed in the game.

“He is calm, comfortable on the ball and reads the game very well. He is also a brave defender.

“It might him a little time to settle abroad, but once he does he will fit in like a glove.

“I believe Rivaldo is a top quality player – he’s the best defender to come through South Africa for a long, long time.

“He has all the attributes required to go a long way.”

And Coetzee, who was the youngest player ever to be capped by South Africa when he made his international debut three years ago as a 17-year-old, previously revealed the origins for his unusual name.

He explained: “My father is a huge fan of Brazilian football and Rivaldo was his favourite player, which is why he named me after him.

“I’ve had a ball with me ever since I was a little boy. My father played in goal for an amateur side. When he was out on pitch, I was behind his goal with my friends, kicking my ball around.

“I grew up in a small place, and everybody knew how much I loved football. Maybe they thought it was just the right name for him to give his son, because football was his life.”

Coetzee’s arrival in Glasgow is likely to be for a limited time only – the 20-year-old was named by Scottish manager Stuart Baxter in his South Africa squad for the World Cup double-header qualifiers against Cape Verde.
