The corner was the correct decision but as FB says the common sense thing to have done would be to have spotted "a foul" as soon as the corner was crossed in. Happens all the time when refs realise they have given a corner in error or a free-kick in error that leads to a corner.

My favourite from Sunday was him awarding advantage as soon as Rogic's goal looked like it was on its way in to cover up that he missed a clear penalty for us. Fairly sure he has previous for that as well.
Considering we've a thread dedicated to (justifiably) bitching at referees, are we seriously suggesting that Thomson should have given us a foul for nothing because he applied the rules correctly a minute beforehand?

The Rogic goal was snide as eff from him. Didn't even contemplate giving a foul, nor was any indication of advantage given, until Rogic was celebrating then he had his arms up with an advantage motion. Cheeky carrot.

my post was really about the absurdity of the rule rather than suggesting things should have been evened up, albeit that is what most refs seem to do when they know something is awry.

Agree on both counts. I think we all know why Thomson didn't even it up though

Started a discussion in the midweek match thread about Craig Thompson's weird though correct decision to award Sevco a corner when he got in the way of a Celtic defenders clearance on Sunday. The referee was at least twenty yards from goal, and the ball was travelling clearly upfield. Surely the rules should allow for a dropped ball at worst, or a bye kick in those circumstances. Having said that, most Refs would immediately blow for a " foul" when the corner was taken , but he didn't do that. I understand he was applying the rules , but ffs, it was their best chance and he'd have got an assist if they had scored.
The other thing that came up was the unerring ability of Refs in this game recently to get right in our road when we are attacking, especially when we are playing our intricate short passing game in the area around the opponents box. It's like playing against an extra defender, and obviously none of it is intentional on the ref's part. :twitch: Do they always get that close to the action in other games?
1- on the ball hitting the ref, the ref just plays on. No matter what happens after the ball hits him. I.e if a balls crossed in the box and a defender boots it and it hits the ref and goes in... it's a goal. As a ref, your taught never to 'even it up' if you think with hindsight you gave the wrong decision... it's just tough on whichever team got the wrong decision.

2- the advantage 'given' was utter bullshampoo. Unless the ball breaks for an open goal or a 1 on 1 from what would be a penalty, it's almost always more advantageous to award the penalty. There's no way he gave advantage there - it was a get out of jail for him and good for us that we had someone with the ability of rogic to wrap that into the net.

The Naismith tackle on Forrest's ankle was shocking, not even a free. Blows up 10 seconds early when it should have been a free to us. He'll get the Cup Final if he keeps this up.

what is it going to take for the ref to send a hearts player off? I reckon hearts should have at least 3 reds by now

It's about time Celtic officially complained to the SFA about this pumpkin. The safety of our players is at serious risk every time he refs one of our games. He did nothing about an opposition player breaking KT's jaw in the Cup Final and today he was looking straight at that stamp on Broony and again did nothing.

carrot will get the final after that today. To not even book Naismith at any point is plain cheating. That's not incompetence. It's cheating of the highest orange order.

Will Naismith be pulled up by the compliance officer? Didn’t get booked for either of his assaults so there’s no reason why they can’t deal with him after the game.

Aside from the obvious cheating involving Naismith by Madden the Hearts No.66 should've walked for me as well. Multiple fouls after his yellow and one was blatantly late well after the ball had gone.

That was the worst refereeing performance I’ve saw in years.

Bobby Madden. Biased? Probably. Incompetent? Definitely.

He refereed last season's SCF; can't see him getting the gig two years in succession. It will be Brother Thomson.
