The head knock to ajer is terrible refereeing - he’s there - right next to it and he lets play continue

Shocking stuff
.....and he must have seen it was a serious collision, not to mention two players from the same team were involved. Would have been bedlam if Aberdeen had scored. Madden won’t have to explain himself but Celtic should be demanding answers.

The referee has an important role in the safety of players and it was extreme negligence to let play continue. As bad as it gets.

Haven't seen it mentioned on here, in the 1st half today, Jozo slides in and knocks the ball out for a shy - ref gives a free kick which they fire into the box and almost score from
Premeditated cheating! Any chance of a free kick near to the Celtic goal was seized on ! Linesman was feet away so surely must have seen it !

That was so clear, he knocked the ball out and May went over his outstretched leg after that, linesman was right there. It was bad enough Madden didn't stop the game immediately for Ajer's head injury, had Aberdeen scored in the time before he actually did stop the game it would have been even worse. Maybe that was what he was he hoping for though.

Aberdeen were awarded 19 freekicks v Celtic yesterday.

When Madden reffed their game at Ibrox in Jan they were awarded 5. ;)

It’s not the first time we’ve seen a referee take zero accountability for Celtic players safety. At killie we had the ref trying to make an injured boyata walk the long way off the park risking further damage. If BR isn’t going to highlight it I’d hope the club are making complaints through Tim Williamson and Ian Sharpe on medical grounds.

Good spot on Madden. Definitely puts his whistle to the mouth but plays on as Aberdeen break in on goal.

Also swerves slightly to get round the guy on the ground clutching his bloodied head.

I think in this case Madden makes the right call.

2 Celtic players wipe each other out. Ajer goes down but is moving, Possible also making noise that Madden can here. Aberdeen are through and have a dangerous attack that is likely to be over within a few seconds. He allows the game to flow then straight away turns back to Ajer and signals for treatment.

Edit to say we got something like this in our favour as well in the champions league qualifiers, the 5 nil game.

That was a foul. The ref carded the guy who headered Rogic. That's why he gave advantage.

edit - that was cheating yesterday.

Lustig's yellow card was correct. The issue is that other teams (cf St Johnstone) have a good few of them without bookings.

Didn't stop play for Ajer having his head cut open. Stopped for Kenny McLean having a head knock.

Pulled up Ntcham for kicking the ball away when they had a free kick. Other teams (cf St Johnstone) get away with this without an issue.

Allowed Kenny McLean to stand one yard away when Brown had a free kick basically dictating what he had to do with it.

That's not even counting the tackle by McGinn sliding in and studding Tierney's foot not being a booking and the countless soft free kicks they got outside the box and the number of soft stops he gave when we were getting the ball up the park.
The treatment dished out week after week without cards, while Celtic players go straight in the book seems that refs are either consciously or subconsciously applying a leveller.

The same rules aren't being applied evenly.

But to see Ajer flat out, in fact to run right past him without even looking at him after witnessing him getting flattened by a head collision, is abominable.

He should be demoted for that.

if its a serious injury then technically advantage doesn't come into it, even if injured player has committed a foul.

I dont think it was cheating, I think he assessed the situation correctly.

Apart from the fact that Ajer isn’t moving contrary to what you said, why didn’t he let the game flow in the first half when the same player was fouled without being injured and we had the ball in a dangerous position?

I agree with the Astana reference, said at the time the ref should have stopped the game because the guy looked as though he had taken a sore one on the head. Think it looked different afterwards.

You are just guessing how long the Aberdeen attack was going to last. The ball could have stayed in play for much longer and thereby exacerbating any injury. Irrespective of what happened against Astana, the correct protocol is to stop the game when someone has suffered a head injury. Madden failed to do that.

Two head knocks. Twice the reason to stop play but he saw an opportunity

there is no such rule in the laws of the game for a head injury.

its a myth that the pundits tell you.

if a serious injury takes place then play should be stopped. In this case Ajer managed to play on so it wasnt a serious injury.

In the week after Ryan Mason's career was cut short after he fractured his skull, you'd have thought it might be something a refereee would look out for.

The play has to stop for 'serious injuries' of which head injuries are generally accepted to be one. Also the referee has to ensure any player who is bleeding leaves the field of play.
