I think stokes should have went for a second yellow during the jack incident. Lucky not to get a straight red for his pull which reminded me of odeas on Sinclair up in dens a wee bit, although I think tavernier had a fly elbow on him too. Jacks was a def red card IMO, hes an absolute cardboard hardman who does stuff like that to endear himself to fans. Mins him kidding on he wanted to square up to Henderson last year.

Re: Bitton at Thistle.
My understanding is that just because there is contact, it doesn't mean it's a penalty.
If the player is impeded and it causes him to trip etc - then it's a penalty - but if a player is touched and he then still has control over his body such that he can throw himself to embellish the effect of contact - I can see why that wouldn't be given if the ref has clear view of what's gone on..
Was it a penalty? Maybe but it would have been very very soft. Ordinarily I wouldn't have thought that type and level of contact would be enough to trip or knock a player over - Bitton is only making a kick at the ball to control it - it wasn't a tackle or a challenge - and besides, Bitton was in possession of the ball, or at least had the biggest shout of being in possession - he was blindsided - the opponent wasn't in possession of the ball, and hadn't quite nipped in to get it - they were 50/50 really.
Much of a muchness really.
A good call from the ref imo.

I love the way it has gone from the "seen them given" category to "stonewaller" in the blink of an SMSM eye.

When Sevco and their predecessors got a favourable ref's decision, the opposite trajectory was employed before the topic was consigned to oblivion the following day. :brickwall:

I don't think it's necessarily a demotion. The top refs get rotated and handle matches in the other divisions throughout the season. Beaton's in charge of the Dunfermline v Falkirk game. That might well draw a bigger crowd than some of the Premier league games attract.

The 'rotation' is a very clever way of taking the heat off.... If a ref makes an honest mistake at a Premiership game, you can be sure that they'd be under the spotlight the following week. The spotlight is a little less intense if there isn't 5 camera angles and high definition freeze frame to scrutinise every decision.

TV is a strange mistress..... I choose to sit at the game and watch it from one angle but on TV, I expect multiple all-around coverage.

It does happen, they do rotate but the DR has the headline "John Beaton and Craig Thomson dropped from Premiership matches after controversial weekend".

No other information in the article, just to tell you who is the ref for the SPFL games (Nick Walsh, Collum for rangers, Clancy for Aberdeen etc) and at th ebottom of the article there is apoll asking "Should Ryan Jacks red card be rescinded?"

68% say yes.

On FF they were talking about the strike and how we get everything because we hounded a ref because he changed his mind on a decision. They cant even get that correct. He asked a linesman to change his story on how it happened. Thats why it was chased up.

you're preaching to the converted mate.
if you get wound up by their moonhowling your general mood might change if you don't read it at all.

it would also help my mood a lot because i don't particularly want to know what shampooe they're talking.
