The free kick at home to Man United then Boruc save Saha penalty. What a effing night. Parkhead was rocking
Most exciting 10 minutes I've ever seen in a soccer match.
Everybody in the Jock Stein knew where he was going to put that free kick.... The anticipation was delicious! Telling 4 Mancs after the game that we had qualified due to our head - to-head record but they had to win in the last game was tasty too! :rocker:
Every fecker new where it was going. He gave them a preview a week or so before.

If we had went to Copenhagen after that and won we would have topped the group and a last 8 chance would have been a shout. I think MU got Lille in the last 16 and Milan for us? :(

OMG I remember being there and seeing it go in! Wasn't that also the night of the JVoH last minute header?
Sure was. I went to a party after the game, which culminated in a guy burning some artwork in his garden. Treasured memories.
As good as the Nakamura goal was, my abiding memory of that game are the chants in injury time from the great unwashed of "Feck all, you're gonna win feck all...." when boom with one turn of his head JVoH silenced them.

As Mastercard say - priceless!

Would love to see him in action in Rodgers' team - have a feeling that he would have been even better than he was with GS (and sorted out our atrocious set pieces too).

There were times he went missing, but in hindsight the way that we set up under GS was pretty reductive.
Tbf half of the time his corners were shampooe. But I absolutely loved him. Was almost in tears watching the video of his goals. So many good memories. The chip was his best in my opinion

did cascarino not score at ibrox? or did the ball bounce off him into the net?
I think Gary Stevens tried to pass it back to the keeper and didnt see Cascarino who slotted it into the net
Nigel spackman it was.

He had magic in those feet of his.
I was in a mad hun pub in Oban that night to watch the game - only place that had it on.

What a hit. Some player indeed.

• A big player for 3 years and scored a few very significant goals
• Was highly effective in his first Champions League season - 2 goals, won a pen vs Copenhagen, ripped Benfica to shreds at home. A joy to watch when he played like that.
• Tended to play more infield (if not outright "no. 10") as a game progressed, especially in a last half hour. I don't know if that was an arrangement he had with Strachan. If you watch the play-off second leg vs Spartak you will see what I mean.
• Bizarrely horrible at corner kicks
• Think he played in about 4 games at Ibrox that were of any significance and yes he was probably rubbish in them but so was the rest of the team
• He was a bit of a physical wreck in his 4th season.
• He played for that foul at Love St. :o

Don't know if the "we sign a high profile Japanese player" and get a lot of sales by that worked - guess not since we didn't sign a replacement for him - but he was one (not Dane) that increased the "knowledge" of Celtic here in Denmark, I think that he is the Celtic player that non Celtic fans were most excited about, saw a few Celtic tops with Nakamura on the back here in Denmark as well back then

Nakers was a great player.

I remember arguing with a a couple of guys, one a tim and one a hun and they were both talking down Nakamura. The hun in particular is a bit of a student of the game and they're both sat there saying Nakamura was a luxury player and was ineffective. Probably the most sensible thing I've ever said on the topic of football was that night arguing vehemently in defence of Naka

Unless he means the half volley screamer from the duff Caldwell pass. :ponder:

Although he means Man Utd... that free kick against McGregor was sublime.

Totally had him flapped, Naka even gave him a fist pump as 'GIRUY YA MANKY HUN BASTARD' :worthy:

Hope he's remembered as a legend. Supreme pro on and off the field. Sneeringly referred to as "Celtic's Asian marketing scheme". It was a bold move to sign him, and he arrived at a dark time for us, and gave us the lift we needed.

Funniest comment I heard about Naka was from Jim Jeffries (ironically enough) offering to drive him to the airport after he'd scored yet another goal v Killie.

Naka also once stated how he appreciated playing with Telfer. Echoes of Dalglish who paid a similar tribute to a similar 'fan favourite' in Tommy Callaghan.

I always felt his corners had too much curve on them. It made them too hard for the player attacking to read and time the header, they more often than not got it wrong.
