I remember I first watched Naka in the Confederations Cup. Not sure when this was. He was absolutely sensational in the tournament, I’m sure he was tipped for a major move following. When I heard we signed him I was ecstatic, purely based on these few games. He didn’t disappoint.

His best goal for us was the chip against Dundee Utd.

Absolute genius. Lubo or Larsson would have struggled to come up with that.
Kris commons didn't, he scored an almost identical goal at hampden vs Aberdeen on his debut ;)

His goal against Man Utd was my greatest moment at any game I've been at.

Will never be topped.
I thought Boruc penalty save was the bigger moment in that game. I've rarely heard the sound we collectively made when Artur dived and saved.

Naka's goal vs Rangers
Vs Kilmarnock to clinch the league
Vs Man U.

Did he ever sclaff one into the net? I recall most of his goals as being amazing, cool or just bloody clever.

Cracking player.
His close control was excellent and he was one of the few players in that side who you could give the ball to no matter how tightly he was being marked.

there was one from long range, straight down the keeper's through, which he somehow managed to chuck in. Naka looked almost embarrassed to have scored it. That was probably his 'worst' goal for us.

2003 he scored a few goals in that tournament I think.

2nd point was me and I stand by it.

Even when playing poorly he could make any defender look silly. Doesn't mean he was a better player than said defenders.

The guy was at home in Europe.
At home in Europe?

Not for us he wasn't. Even Strachan benched him in some Euro games same as he did v huns.

He was a very good player who could hit a great freekick. He was a shining light in Strachan's team of functional cack. He wouldn't get in a great Celtic team though.
He was one of the few who possessed the technique in Strachans side at that level.

Don't have the stats handy but I'd bet his pass completion for us at Champion League level was regularly one of the highest in the side.

He was dropped once or twice when we went away from home so that Strachan could play an even more functional set-up which never got us anywhere- see Copenhagen and Benfica away.

A cracking player, full of trickery and skill.
Tremendous dead ball striker
I rate Lubo a lot higher though.

Couldn't give a flying one about his passing stats.

A player as good as described on here plays every game. Why didn't he?

Personally I thought Naka went missing far too often but when he turned it on he was class act.

That's where I first saw him too, he was outstanding in that tournament. I was genuinely blown away when I found out we were signing him, used to always try and pick him up for Celtic in Football Manager but a work permit was always a bastard to get a hold of

The 1-1 game at Celtic Park. Mcdonald scored only for Giggs to equalise with a few minutes to go.

We started with Sheridan up front and brought on Ben Hutchinson towards the end

Nakamura didn't play and from memory, he wasn't injured.

He also missed Milan at home if I remember but it was due to a knee injury I think.

For some reason I always assumed that Naka was injured along with a host of others that night. Clearly not.

No Celtic fan can ever remember anything Nakamura did against Oldco at Ibrox because he was anonymous every time we played there - in stark contrast to true greats who excelled in that atmosphere and often produced their biggest performances there. Great free kick taker but couldn't be trusted to take big games by the scruff of the neck.
