Bertie maybe, but not JC, even though I am a fan of his.
As a midfielder, Collins was streets ahead of him.

Nakamura was a very good player, and was excellent at set-pieces and striking the ball. Not the most consistent, though clearly he was a shining light in Strachan's functional setup.

I'd like to have seen him as a number 10 (hardly an original opinion), but to be honest that probably wouldn't have worked in our formation at the time.
All round midfielder Collins certainly was. He could tackle for a start

To think that Caldwell would be able to claim an assist for that :lmao:
All meant.
The body shape Nakamura ends up in trying to get that "pass" under control is hilarious

Happy Birthday wee man.

An absolute pleasure to watch and especially in European games his ability to control the play and moreso, possession was invaluable.

I think it was the first half vs Man Utd at home and for about 5-10 mins, he kept darting into space, taking passes, laying it off and receiving the ball again. They couldn't get near it due to him.
As a few have pointed out, not many players have had the technical ability he possed and his free kicks were second only to the lad Juninho at Lyon.

Not often we have a player who is mentioned in the same breath as Zico, Pirlo, Beckham etc as one of the finest at his art.

Put Naka up against any full back in the world in his pomp and he'd have skinned them repeatedly. The number of times he'd fake a pass/cross and send his opponent a few yards in the wrong direction allowing him to move into space or pick a teammate with a pass was ridiculous.

Didn't have the explosive pace to really make it at a top team but his awareness and vision was on par with Lubo's imo.

Best dead ball expert I've ever seen, and that's saying something. That left foot was magical. Really enjoyed his time with us, but imagine him in this team.

Him or Rogic? Or would he play where Armstrong does?

I've never wanted a player to stay more. I'm 26, and I thought players like Lubo and Larsson were the norm when I was young. After watching some very ordinary players try and take their place over the years afterwards, Nakamura for me was a cut above the players he played with. In a relatively turgid team, he was the spark. Often criticised for not doing it often enough in the big games early on, I always thought the team struggled to get the ball to him in those matches. When they did, it was pure magic. Some
Absolutely brilliant performances and goals in his time. I just wish he stayed longer than he did. I honestly think he left five years too early.

It's his birthday today, and at the risk of being ridiculed for turning KDS into Jackie magazine, many happy returns to a wonderful football player.

Gordon Strachan is criticised (rightly at times) for the style of football during his tenure, but Naka was simply a shining light through it all.

We were blessed to have him.
A shining light through the two last 16 campaigns Strachan led us to, let's hope we see that again soon.

The KDS caveat in full flow, the switcheroo wide player that he introduced and we still witness today.

The free kick against Man Utd was probably the best moment in terms of pure elation that I've experienced at Celtic Park.

Edit to add I wasn't at Barca 2-1 or stopping the 10

I'm clearly Naka daft.
But seriously, Juninho was (probably) the best free kicker in history.

*Of the 75 goals this Brazilian midfielder scored for his French club, Lyon, an astonishing 44 were from free kicks. Four of them were from beyond a range of 40 meters, which included 2 from distances of 41 and 48 meters against Barcelona and OGC Nice respectively*

Should go down in folklore for that freekick against United at Parkhead alone. Tremendous player.

One of my all time favourite players. His free-kick against Man United was one of the sweetest moments ever. Also one of my most bizarre nights supporting Celtic. My brother-in law and I decided to get some decent wine after the game. Headed for Peckham's on Clarence Drive. As we approached the junction of University Avenue and Hyndland Road I dropped the cigarette I was about to light. At the lights I opened my door to get out and look for the fag exactly at the point that an unsuspecting Chinese student was passing on the inside on his bicycle. Almost knocked the poor guy into Tennent's.

OT, as was said in the commentary (by Archie?) Steve Perryman said Naka could open a tin of beans with his left foot.
