I re-watched the game with my eye on Dembele and took notes of every bit of play he was involved in that he either touched the ball or directly influenced where the ball went. I tried to be as impartial as possible. The game is on BBC iPlayer for anyone who wants to check it out - everything is time stamped.

I haven't included his chasing down or his runs that he never received the ball from but there was a few that are worth mentioning. For the shot Forrest had in the first half he creates the space for Musonda to run in to by dragging the defender in the opposite direction. In the second half when Musonda breaks and tries to play him in he could have been played in a lot earlier as Moussa had found a lot of space. His overall work rate in chasing down was impressive from the video footage - He's defending from the front for our first goal cutting off space that leads to the turnover to Browns ball over the top.

The biggest thing I noticed is how little we created for him. He dropped deep more and more as the game went on to get involved. Forrest obviously scored a hat trick so who really cares but he didn't do much in the way of creating chances for anyone (3 assists all season).

Another thing is how we looked a lot more comfortable taking throw ins. His movement gave the thrower a target to hit. It was noticeable how long we were taking earlier in the season and how it was disrupting our play.

My opinion hasn't changed. A solid game. A few bad moments but mostly in situations where you don't really expect him to do any better. His work rate was up on the Killie game and he had some very good actions in the game - especially the one that led to the goal.

Spoiler: click to toggle

Good effort. He needs game time and to put the transfer window behind him. His quality is there. He knows in his head now that he's here till the summer and with LG out he has between now and then to show what he can do. If he can get a goal across the Zenit ties it will do him the world of good.

People see what they want to see with Dembele. Myself included at times.

The whole carrying weight, he was garbage, lost every challenge etc stuff just blatantly isnt true though. People seem to be annoyed that he isn't winning enough headers... It's not really what he's good at and it doesnt really matter when theres no one running in behind. A big part of the problem has been the build up play and the lack of service from Forrest, Sinclair and whoever plays in the 10 role.

I don't even know where to begin with the pish that was posted about Griffiths.

I'm just going to sit back and let Remy deal with it. It'll be much funnier that way.
Aye Griffiths has been poor anaw. Dembele being awful doesn't change that.

I've said before that I think we'll be a different prospect in a couple of weeks time once players return from injury and things settle down.

A couple of good performances against Zenit followed by slapping McInnes, McCann then the huns one after the other in a row and we'll be rocking again.

We passed the ball to our keeper multiple times on Saturday. Dembele hardly got one decent pass in the whole game.

I'm calling you out on yar blockos.

I've took a ban because of your cliping and whining and I'm prepared to take another.

The protestations at anyone (heaven forbid) calling his performance below average has you scrabbling for the i-player so you can squeeze another 90 mins of Moussa into your hands, I mean life.
Now all this 'BUT HIS PHYSIQUE MAN!!' chat confirms all that was assumed.

If we isolate just but a few of your defenses and apply them to you guessed it, the man with the best goals to minutes record (Leigh Griffiths) then we can safely assume that Griffiths (with his superior assists and goals record) and who has suffered equally if not worse than Demebele on the injury front, is by far the better player.

Why?

Even when his team mates are honking and the defence plays the ball around to each other, Griffiths manages to bring his dross team mates into play.

Even though he is surrounded by pure muck and static midfielders, Griffiths seems to find space by coming deep or playing the flanks.

His genius is such that he also has the ability to spot a pass, and play the ball, AFTER having demonstrated some other worldly ability in controlling an errant, skywards pass from some goon skylarking as a Celtic defender.

There's no point in talking about Griffiths goal record however, as he notches up his efforts against muck like Hibs, Aberdeen or Rangers but fails against the likes of Barca (even though he somehow managed to score against the weakest Catalan team EVER!)

The amount of times he has brought us 3 points with his persistence, perseverance and plain old luck is an irrelevance because although he scores regularly, he probably doesn't match up to Moussa in the shower, and his baby making antics are an affront to the club.

I'm afraid your attraction and infatuation with Dembele is akin to Alan Partridge and his of 'Dan'.

Face facts. He's been pish most of this season but most Celtic fans I speak to agree, Griffiths when played, is actually less pish than Stan Lee's French Hero.
Yet there is one goal between them? Both have been underpar. They are both assets when on form.

Watching a video of the first 5-1 game last season, Moussa looked so much sharper and slimmer; not for a second saying he's carrying fat but it's entirely possible that he's put on too much muscle. He has looked sluggish this season, in comparison.
