I re-watched the game with my eye on Dembele and took notes of every bit of play he was involved in that he either touched the ball or directly influenced where the ball went. I tried to be as impartial as possible. The game is on BBC iPlayer for anyone who wants to check it out - everything is time stamped. I haven't included his chasing down or his runs that he never received the ball from but there was a few that are worth mentioning. For the shot Forrest had in the first half he creates the space for Musonda to run in to by dragging the defender in the opposite direction. In the second half when Musonda breaks and tries to play him in he could have been played in a lot earlier as Moussa had found a lot of space. His overall work rate in chasing down was impressive from the video footage - He's defending from the front for our first goal cutting off space that leads to the turnover to Browns ball over the top. The biggest thing I noticed is how little we created for him. He dropped deep more and more as the game went on to get involved. Forrest obviously scored a hat trick so who really cares but he didn't do much in the way of creating chances for anyone (3 assists all season). Another thing is how we looked a lot more comfortable taking throw ins. His movement gave the thrower a target to hit. It was noticeable how long we were taking earlier in the season and how it was disrupting our play. My opinion hasn't changed. A solid game. A few bad moments but mostly in situations where you don't really expect him to do any better. His work rate was up on the Killie game and he had some very good actions in the game - especially the one that led to the goal. Spoiler: click to toggle 1:03 - Great movement to get in behind on Browns ball forward. Brilliant first touch, decent enough shot blocked and it leads to a goal.
5:06 - Good movement to find space in the box, the cross is probably just a bit too high for him but he should have done better. Unlucky.
7:50 - Chases the ball down well and caused the Thistle defender to miss it. Chases again and the ball is launched out of play. Turnover of possession to Celtic.
8:33 - Spins the defender and looks to get in but the pass is short. Turns, takes a good touch and chips it out wide to Forrest in what was a poor pass. Done well initially but should have done better with the final ball.
11:48 - It’s a long ball from De Vries and he does well to get himself in in front of the defender coming from a deeper position. Puts enough pressure on that we come away with the ball.
26:05 - Clearance from a corner. He’s stretching a bit for it but he probably should have got more contact on it.
27:19 - I included this as one of the only examples of his chasing down as I was particularly impressed with it. Forrest comes in central and ends up out on the left and Thistle try to break down the right when they get the ball back and Dembele fills in for him.
28:04 - Comes deep - takes a good touch and lofts it out wide. Keeps the ball moving at a good pace.
28:43 - Comes short for the ball and tries to spin like earlier on when Ajer played him in but the pass from Simunovic comes as if he’s still going short. Not really his fault but maybe he should be doing better in this instance.
30:56 - Drops to the half way line to pick up a pass from Tierney and then knocks it back to Simunovic.
31:26 - Caught static when the ball comes in. The defender actually does well to get in infront of him but he should be doing better. Chases the ball down and makes it difficult for Thistle.
38:38 - Tries to hold it up and fails. Needs to be stronger but it was a 2 vs 1 situation.
Second half
45:39 - The ball comes long and I can’t quite tell if he’s touched it or not when he challenges in the air for it. The ball ends up at Tierney's feet anyway.
45:30 - Impressive defending from the front. Chases the Thistle defender and forces him into an error. Celtic regain possession.
47:20 - Tries to get in behind like for the first goal but goes too early. Offside.
49:50 - Long ball is played up to him and he wins the header but with no one in his vicinity it goes to Thistle. He chases down and wins the ball back.
50:35 - Comes short and takes it from Tierney and keeps the ball moving.
50:49 - Same move again as what led to the first goal - gets the run on the defender in behind but unfortunately the ball takes an unexpected bounce and goes through to the keeper. It’s hard to tell from the camera angle but he might have been able to control it. Inconclusive.
52:50 - Defender gets in and makes a tackle as he looks to receive it short again. Ball stays in our possession.
55:24 - Ball goes long again - manhandled by the Thistle defender. Should have been a free kick but the ref lets it go.
56:27 - Takes it in well from the throw in under pressure, turns and lays it off Ntcham in space. Good hold up play.
57:28 - Fights for the ball in a scramble in the middle of the park - ref gives a freekick for no reason.
60:10 - Alert as he gambles on a Thistle passbook where he blocks Cerny’s attempted clearance. Ball could have ended up anywhere but lucky enough for the keeper it went up in the air - he then booted Dembele in the chest.
60:46 - Another long ball comes up to him and he flicks the header on in to space but no runners from wide or beyond. Too easy to defend against balls like that.
62:31 - Does well and shows good feet to get into the box but when he cuts back his final pass is poor. Should have done better.
65:17 - Takes it in from the throw in, does well and plays it back. Good hold up play.
65:32 - Takes the pass in from Ajer and holds it up well. Creates enough space to get it out of his feet and keeps the ball moving. Good hold up play.
67:02 - Takes it from another throw in again. Good first touch and carry the ball in to the middle of the park. Lack of options to pass to and when it finally goes to Ntcham its probably too late. Pass is tipped and puts Ntcham under pressure when he receives it.
71:20 - Ball comes in to him - should have done better. Can’t tell if its a bad touch or a bad attempted pass.
72:06 - Drops out to the left to create space and receives the ball from Ntcham. Good first touch to take the ball where it needs to be and drives towards the box - takes it past the Thistle player and drags his shot wide. Good positive play lacking in the finish.
73:31 - He’s brilliant here. Tierney launches it forward and he gets himself infront of the Thistle defender and brings it down under pressure. Sticks his boot on the ball and drags it away from another thistle player and then plays it to McGregor. Tries to get himself forward but is fouled.
74:34 - Challenges for another long ball but loses out this time.
81:29 - Hoofed forward by Tierney aimlessly. Tries to get himself into position but it goes over his head.
84:44 - Another long ball to challenge for. Loses out as Thistle defenders position is good.
85:03 - Ball comes into feet again and the pressure from the Thistle player means it goes backwards to one of our players.
85:22 - Goes for the spin in behind again but the pass is too heavy. Unlucky.
88:09 - Long ball comes up and he makes it difficult for the Thistle defender. We pick up the second ball in a dangerous area.
89:29 - Gambles and spins the defender to get in behind showing how sharp he still is in the 89th minute. Pass back to Edouard could have led to a goal.
90:07 - Poor first touch as he tries to cut inside when doubled up on. Chases the ball down and helps win it back and then ushers it to safety.
92:49 - Wins a freekick and the game ends.
Your clutching mate, hes struggling the now and as much as today was better than Killie it still wasn't great. Vast improvement needed. You can say that - but I've gave an honest assessment of his involvement in the game.
It was a solid performance that doesn't warrant the nonsense that was posted here. I'm not saying he was incredible or anything of the sort. Just find it very effing weird that people jump in here with stuff that blatantly isn't true to try and have a go at him.

Hes carrying weight. Not the athlete he was last season and his touch is honking.
Moussa carrying weight I am reliably informed Moussa has a 'physique like an effn Marvel superhero.' agree way that......he looks like a powerful big man. An absolute tank. Just doesn't look sharp.

In fairness these player issue taps leave no margin for error in terms a fatness. Nowhere to hide anything. If you want to see a fitba player carrying a bit of beef look at Boyd in the Sportscene highlights tonight. Hes packin.

I think he looks the perfect physique for the type of player he is.
Can't wait for Musonda to bulk up so I can read posts on here about him being fat.

I'm calling you out on yar blockos.
I've took a ban because of your cliping and whining and I'm prepared to take another.
The protestations at anyone (heaven forbid) calling his performance below average has you scrabbling for the i-player so you can squeeze another 90 mins of Moussa into your hands, I mean life. Now all this 'BUT HIS PHYSIQUE MAN!!' chat confirms all that was assumed.
If we isolate just but a few of your defenses and apply them to you guessed it, the man with the best goals to minutes record (Leigh Griffiths) then we can safely assume that Griffiths (with his superior assists and goals record) and who has suffered equally if not worse than Demebele on the injury front, is by far the better player.
Why?
Even when his team mates are honking and the defence plays the ball around to each other, Griffiths manages to bring his dross team mates into play.
Even though he is surrounded by pure muck and static midfielders, Griffiths seems to find space by coming deep or playing the flanks.
His genius is such that he also has the ability to spot a pass, and play the ball, AFTER having demonstrated some other worldly ability in controlling an errant, skywards pass from some goon skylarking as a Celtic defender.
There's no point in talking about Griffiths goal record however, as he notches up his efforts against muck like Hibs, Aberdeen or Rangers but fails against the likes of Barca (even though he somehow managed to score against the weakest Catalan team EVER!)
The amount of times he has brought us 3 points with his persistence, perseverance and plain old luck is an irrelevance because although he scores regularly, he probably doesn't match up to Moussa in the shower, and his baby making antics are an affront to the club.
I'm afraid your attraction and infatuation with Dembele is akin to Alan Partridge and his of 'Dan'.
Face facts. He's been pish most of this season but most Celtic fans I speak to agree, Griffiths when played, is actually less pish than Stan Lee's French Hero.

Thought he was poor yesterday. None of our forwards are playing well, but when not playing well, at least Griffiths is the most likely to pop up with a goal. On the other hand if Dembele does turn up, he’s by far the best option. It’s a big concern when we play mostly with one up front.
As with a few positions, the main problem seems that no-one has just been given a clear run of 8-10 games.

Ste's running amok of late. I don't even know where to begin with the pish that was posted about Griffiths.
I'm just going to sit back and let Remy deal with it. It'll be much funnier that way.

It was from solid.

The guys lost the plot. I'm living in his head rent free.
He'll be fuming on Thursday when big Moussa does the damage on the big stage again.

Some serious mental gymnastics going on in this thread. Yesterday wasn't his worst game in recent times and he did tremendously well at the first goal. But from that point on he often looked clumsy on the ball and very static off of it.
That said, his best game arguably this season came a couple of weeks ago when Eduoard played off him. Why Brendan has abandoned that system after one very successful trial run is anyone's guess. The constant chopping and changing hasn't helped anyone.

Dembele just looks like a guy who doesn’t want to be here. It started to worry me earlier in the season when he didn’t look too fussed when we scored-even in the league cup final. If Griff was fit i’d be starting him in a heartbeat before Dembele. Even when he’s not firing on all cylinders the wee man always gives you 100%.

He is a shadow of his former self.
All round play is poorer and at times looks as if he cannot be fooked.
