These days, it’s impossible to feel attached to any player.

KT

Agree with your overall point though, especially with someone as good as Moussa, 2 year cycle and off they go for a big profit. It was brilliant watching a player of that quality in hoops.
KT, Scott Brown, Lustig, even little Jamesy over the past season and a bit.

Dembele is a superb talent and I have enjoyed watching him but injuries and some patchy periods of form mean he was never really essential to our success over the time he was here. Some great memories against the Huns and some great European moments but I'm pretty relaxed about him going, long as we get a good price.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
A 10,000-15,000 jump in the attendance since Brendan came in would suggest otherwise.
Yeah all those bad attempts at trapping a ball bring them in by the thousands.
The point previously made was that fans would rather watch a limited player than a skillful one. Based on the jump in attendance that's obviously not true.

Footballers really confuse me sometimes.

If Dembele thinks he should be playing for a top team he should be smashing it out the park on a regular basis for us. He's doing himself a disservice, really.

The attendances were up before Dembele had even stepped on the park though. BR arriving was the main catalyst.

Going by both Brendan's and Chris Davie's comments we are looking to get him out the door. They are hanging the lad out to dry with what they are saying. Either he wants to go and the club are fed up with him or we want him to go and are trying to engineer it.

Yeah, it definitely sounds like those are the only scenarios.

Or both parties agree it's the best time for it, as appears to be the case. :ponder:

It was the point in general. The additional fans are here because of a better quality of player - which Brendan brought in. Same reason attendances surged under O'Neill. To say fans would rather watch a limited player huff and puff than a skillful one isn't true.

Yes the comments do have that feel about them. That would tend to support the rumour that Moussa didn't fancy Brighton and knocked them back. Difficulty for Celtic is if he leaves it late in the window we've little time to react - so I can understand a pro-active stance here.

If this had been his first season with us we'd probably been shouting about punting him for next to nothing. He's not really done much of note this season and so far living on the glories of last season. Hard to tell what kind of player he is at the moment given his limited game time and injuries. Certainly showed he has the potential to be top drawer but i think he has to be very careful about the club he goes to. With his injury record this season he could be consigned to the bench more often than not and become the 2nd or 3rd striker. He needs game time like all players to push on and improve. If it was purely for football reasons he should really stay here for another season and another crack at CL get fit and then move but that's not how it works these days.
That's actually why he's probably better off going to somewhere like Brighton or Palace. He'll get more game time for them than he would for whichever "big" club he dreams of playing for, and once he's proven himself in that league then he'll get his oil dollars. If that's the route that he goes down, we can sell (relatively) low and stick a sell-on clause in. Same as happened with VVD basically.

Of course, if one of the super-super-rich clubs decides that they want him now we should be fleecing them.

This is getting uglier and uglier with these comments to the press. Why do Rodgers and Davies feel the need to speak to the press about this stuff? Is it a tactic to get people bidding?

Yep, I just posted something similar on Facebook but if it were for Football reasons then I would advocate staying, getting fit and getting back to the kind of form he showed last season.

I do feel as though he's selling himself short with the likes of Palace and Stoke but then would he get game time at anyone in the top 6..... Probably not.

Anyway, around 25 million, add ons and a 20% sell on clause will suffice

It's a weird one. You'd think it would be beneficial for both parties if Dembele was fully fit and scored 15 goals between now and summer. Bigger clubs for him, more money for Celtic.

This thread is like the huns statement about McInnes. Folk trying not to be bothered that hes going. Its mental.

He's the best player this country has seen in 14 years.
Fans would rather watch a more limited player busting a gut than a sulky tosser who thinks hes better then he is
What's Stuart Armstrong got to do with it :ph43r:

Following on from the Jan window thread. Moussa is more than decent.

Isn't he our second top goalscorer in champions league history? He has played a season and a half in that competition.

He has impressed for France u21 and he is not far off the full squad.

When he goes replacing him won't be as easy as some of our support seem to think.

Surely we cant be punting him out the door with no replacement lined up.
Right?...
Are we really gonny just chuck the Zenit game and keep the money for buying a striker in summer.

Don't really think Dembele has too much to prove to be honest. He's come up here, where players get little protection and the general standard is rough and ready, scored and dominated defences as well as being kicked all over the park. And he's shown he can do it in Europe. Dembele is a smashing player and those in the game that matter know that. Frankly I reckon he's done all that he can do here and he's probably going a bit stale so time to move on. Young players need motivation and realistic targets, there's not much left that way at Celtic.
There's a week left of the transfer window, plenty of time for the serious buyers to get in touch. We even have cash in the bank to buy a replacement up front, if that's what BR wants.
Really it just sounds to me that all parties are prepared to move on if the right offer comes in.
