Pendy 12... "I know there are people who have never played football that watch it for whatever reason".

Why would you need to have played football to want to watch it? Bizarre remark.
Not really, but unless you have played the game and understand it, you don't have a full grasp of it.

Sure you are wearing the same glasses when you see the two of them play? Solely based on preseason so far, I think Ciftci has been offering just as much with his physics. Dembele is perhaps a bigger talent and will become better with time, but havn´t seen much of it so far.
ciftci is now and always will be a truly dreadful footballer. he was bought by your hero despite everyone with eyes knowing this. to even compare him to dembele even after just 2 games shows what a truly poor judge you really are and have been since you joined this forum
It´s a new season with a new manager. As for players, there is no garanti that one good season will be followed by another good one, or opposite. It´s of course too early to put the verdict on Dembele, but I´m also positive to giving all players a chance, Ciftci included. I try to make my judgements (sometimes poor, I´m sure) on what I see on the pitch day by day, and less on the type of prejudices and bold statements (in mix with a portion of personal insults of course) you are serving here.

Plenty of folk who have played football at a high level have absolutely no understanding of it.

Plenty of folk who have never played football at any decent level are quite capable of having a grasp of it.

Maybe in your experience but not in mine. If people couldn't see that Dembele was making good runs and working off Griffiths but label him a donkey because his touch wasn't great after 2 weeks of pre season then they don't know much about football.
I made the tongue in cheek donkey comment after the game. People need to calm down  I am sure the Balde comments were also tongue in cheek.

The boy is young and has only played 2 games so needs time, however, surely no one can deny his finishing and first touch were woeful at times. There was also two occasions when he was far too greeedy and should have played Griffiths in.

I think he will be a good foil for griffiths and will easily score 20+ this season.

Not sure we can afford two wasteful strikers in Europe though.

And off course Zidane doesn't have a clue what he's talking about saying he'll be a star (what would he know about what makes a good forward ;) )
To be fair, didn't Larsson say Bangura would be a grand signing?

19 years old and been here for 3 weeks. Can we at least wait he's figured out what the hell Scott Brown is saying in training before he's written off?

Not overly impressed so far HOWEVER technically he does look to have something.

Far to early for a recent 20 year old to be hung up/out to dry - after only 2 competitive games for us. As i say does look technically better than anything we have had last 2 years (since Hooper?). Last night he swivelled his body on two occasions in penalty box and was majorly unlucky IMO not to score.

Here's hoping the lad has a good few years with us.

Great rep albeit at youth level and fairly decent season or so in Championship so one to progress for us. Looking forward to seeing him more and more. First goal will come next couple of games and kick on.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it already but Griffiths' goal came about because Dembele had occupied the two centre-backs, giving Leigh enough room to shoot. This - though not alone - is an example of what he can bring to the team and benefit his team mates. His movement is very good and I like the flourishing relationship the pair are already developing.

Clearly settling in and still young/raw. Will definitely come good.

AVB didn't.
Sacchi played at amateur level
Mourinho, granted, did play

So what's your classification on "playing" football? Actually playing professionally? Playing the odd game of 11s? What?

I think Dembele has a better pedigree than Bangura, to put it mildly.

I'm guessing a huge percentage of people on here have played football.

Can you not just agree that your original point was, at best, a poorly worded exaggeration and then we can just leave this and get back to moaning about players being shampooe?

AVB got his A license at the age of 19 - when exactly did he find the time for a career as a footballer?

I think the basic point is that playing at the top level gives you exposure to top level managers who should fill your head with tactics and working off the ball etc. that the average guy in the pub watching football might not be aware of, but it's not the only way of getting that knowledge.
