True abd the gulf will cotinue as we keep subsidising english football through sky subscriptions!
So people have to stop watching decent and more exciting football (on the whole) on the off chance that it will ruin EPL clubs' finances and suddenly we'll be on more of a level playing field?
Yes. Why not. Watch the highlights on Match of the Day and maybe even get a new healthy hobby

I don't watch a lot of premiership football but decided to watch arsenal V chelsea tonight. My son tells me the chelsea forward cost them £70 million. He was pish. We are going to get way more than 20 for Dembele.
Morata didn’t have a great night but the gulf in quality between that Arsenal v Chelsea game and anything served up in Scotland is exactly why EPL teams will be reluctant to spend mega money on any of our guys. It was like watching a different sport.

There's also a huge gulf between an Arsenal v Chelsea game and a Brighton v Bournemouth game. You'll get good games watching the top half dozen teams in England, but most of the teams below that would put you to sleep. Their main aim is to stay in the EPL, which is why guys like Tony Pullis keep getting hired.

A good end to the season and his value will rocket, he is only back from a double injury, but getting more stick than he deserves surely?
Players lose form and struggle to get it back after injuries or while carrying niggling injuries, that's life. Moussa has recently looked disinterested and his performance at Tynecastle was bizarre, trying to take it past players while doing keepie uppies, he deserves criticism, just like the deserved his praise for a superb performance at Pittodrie. Sometimes people may go OTT because they know what he's capable of, he set high standards for himself last year and has been nowhere near that level this season.
Or more likely they have a wee pet player that Moussa keeps out the team or have took the huff cause they know Dembele will leave shortly.

The not interested talk is pure nonsense. It was labelled at him last season as well. He wasn't interested in the wee games supposedly. This was a guy who scored 32 goals in 49 appearance. A fair % of these appearances would be from the bench or when he was returning from injury. The evidence does not back up fans perceptions.
It's the body language, same with Armstrong for a spell, they just look like they'd rather be elsewhere sometimes. I'm not saying he wasn't trying, but it's liked his heads dropped in a few games recently. Obviously it's frustrating for a striker when no ones making chances for him. If anything he was trying too hard to score at Tynecastle, which ruined his normal game and wasted 4 good opportunities for us to score.

He was busting a gut in the first half. Running all over the field. Dropping deep and trying to get involved with play. There was also one moment in the second half that he chased the ball down.

I agree that he doesn't look disinterested.

In the interests of fairness, that Tosun deal that Everton are setting up according to the BBC is for 27M, but it's for a player from the back to back Turkish Champions, which is a higher level that ours. English clubs always try to downplay Scottish football when it comes to prices. I expect more than 18M when Dembele leaves, but people have to consider all the circumstances. Something in that Tosun region would probably end up being the amount we get if we do very well.

Dembele counts as a homegrown player. THat's a big deal and will add significant value to his fee if he goes to the EPL.

5 years of age difference between them as well and Dembele has already done the business in the Championship. He'll be able to 'settle' instantly.

Lawwell did say something on structure of deal

But would explain a lot

I wouldn't expect it would be as bare as this otherwise we are exposed to him going for low number and he's got no or little incentive to keep trying

Pl wouldn't do a deal on that basis but I could understand a deal at a big % going to moussa especially if structured right

I was shocked when we signed him after seeing him linked with the likes of Spurs and Arsenal for the previous two years. Like Ruben Neves to Wolves, there always seemed something a bit odd about one of Europe’s top young strikers coming to Scotland. As much as he said all the right things about wanting to play first team football, etc, the obvious answer for him being here was always that he and/or his agent would ultimately make a financial killing - which is absolutely fine. What’s becoming increasingly apparent though is that it’s unlikely he’ll go straight from Celtic to one of the elite clubs. Instead it looks like he’ll need to settle for the Van Dijk/Wanyama route and join a lower half EPL team first, which I’m pretty certain he believed he could avoid.

Lawwell told The Times: “Moussa was a straightforward transfer to us,” he told The Times. “I obviously cannot go into the details of our arrangement with the player, or what we paid for him to Fulham, but it was a standard transfer.

“There is no cap in terms of what we might eventually get for him. There is no mechanism there to cap it. If we get £100 million for him, we get £100 million.

“What we did was we paid the compensation due. We paid the agent, as you normally do, and we’ve got a contract of employment with the player. That’s it.

“So if anyone offers money for Dembele, subject to the employment contract, there will be no cap.”

BRENDAN RODGERS fears constant transfer talk surrounding Moussa Dembele could scramble his star striker’s head.

Celtic’s £20million-rated frontman is being tracked by a long list of top clubs in the UK and abroad.

Brighton are understood to be lining up a bid for the 21-year-old French ace during this month’s transfer window, but they are unlikely to be the only ones interested.

Rodgers is worried Dembele’s form could be affected by the never-ending speculation.

Speaking from the club’s training camp in Dubai, he said: “Moussa is at a stage in his career where he needs to keep proving that he can play for Celtic. Whatever comes from that will come.

“Speculation can be very unhelpful for a young player. If you are an experienced player you get used to it.

“But if you’ve been linked with so many clubs over a period of time, then it surely can be unsettling.

“It’s not something that ends up being good for a player.

“There has been a lot of noise around Moussa for 18 months now — but let’s be clear, we’ve not had one bid.

“He’s been linked with about 16 clubs, but the bottom line is you have to play football.

“Be ready to play and then, if a move comes, it comes.

“I don’t want to speak about speculation because it has been non-stop and I think it could hinder the development of a player, not just Moussa.

“There have been enquiries around him, but not one bid.”

Former Celtic star Kris Commons accused Dembele of being disrespectful when he went straight up the tunnel after being substituted against Rangers recently.

But Rodgers has defended his striker. He added: “I haven’t seen anything as regards to the Rangers game.

“Moussa is not that type. It’s one of the beauties of him. He’s a really good boy and super professional.”

Rodgers joked: “He does walk slowly. The boys will tell you he virtually breaks into a walk!

“He times his run perfectly for team meetings. We are all waiting to fine him for being late.

“He has this incredible knack. We don’t know if he hides at the back and just steps in.

“But, seriously, Moussa is a very relaxed boy. He’s laid-back but he’s professional.

“I don’t know what the noise was, but that’s not the type of group I have.”

Rodgers also insists when the time comes for Celtic to sell Dembele they’ll get top dollar.

The Parkhead gaffer added: “I’m quite relaxed on it.

“Because of who we are and how we play, it is going to attract attention and that attention will ultimately lead to interest in players.

“You never want to lose your best players, of course.

“Like I’ve always said, if any player goes, it will be for their market value. I have had a few private conversations and I give the reality about what the situation is.

“It’s something that all takes its course. As a player, all you have to concentrate on is playing, training and working as hard as you can.

“If you are a goalscorer, create and score goals and then see where it takes you.

“But he’s very relaxed in his manner and how he is.

“He doesn’t give away much. He always had a plan when he came here.

“He wanted to play for a big club, show he could cope with pressure, develop as a player, become a winner and see where that takes him.

“If you are a young French international and are progressing like he is, then there’s going to be a level of interest.

“What’s important for him is to concentrate on what you can control, which is the football.”

Brendan is really very good at selling the Club & ethos to young players.
He's also very realistic if & when they develop to a stage of moving on - either to bigger or not so bigger things...Henderson & Dembele as examples.
