I think Monaco could afford it. I seem to recall them selling a couple of players recently
I said they could.

The valuations of Dembele in here are depressing. £15m for a player of his quality and potential is robbery. The bidding should start at 30m. No more getting shafted by absolute chancers.
The whole thread is depressing. If folk aren't counting how much he's worth, they are making lists of potential buyers.
Not sure if you mean genuinely saddening, as we have to accept a player of his quality won't stay here, or if you're having a dig at posters for discussing a potential future transfer.

One I agree with, the other is stupidity.

Folk are free to discuss whatever they want. Personally I think it's stupid to sit making lists of clubs who might want to sign one of our players but each to their own. Once he leaves I couldn't care less who he plays for.

But we're talking about how much money we'd get from potential buyers i.e. it directly affects our club; it's not as if we're trying to punt him!

Maybe I'm just fed up with folk discussing how much we will get for him. It's gone on for a while now.

Of course it affects the club but I'm sure when the time comes they will do everything they can to make maximum profit on him. Until then I only really care about what he does in a Celtic strip.

Read a few of the posts here and cant help reflecting on the emotional farewell of Henke. Oh how times have changed, A man who loved Celtic and was loved by us. Left for nothing but went with a blessing and is still held in the highest regard. Look now at VVD and Moussa. They are nothing more to the club than cash cows. Sure they serve a purpose but their values seem now to be measured as much by their potential sell-on value as by their on-field contribution to success. A sobering vision of where we are.

You’re missing the point; you don’t get to decide what Celtic-related material is allowed.

Wholeheartedly agree.

If someone is wanting to pay £30m for him, I'd rather keep him than sell. We don't have the money to replace like for like - and we wouldn't pay it if we did.

Keep until the end of his contract.

The English league is were the money is and the top four / six teams there probably wouldn't take a punt on Dembele.

No matter how well they play up here on in Europe for us the English seem to dismiss anyone playing here in Scotland.

That's why our players end up going to Southampton or Swansea and once they have played half a season down there they then seemed to be linked to a "bigger" club.

So we may get about £15 million for Dembele but with heavy sell on clauses. A cracking for a player we have paid £500k for less than two years ago.

I would prefer it if he stayed, helped us through to the end of the season, scoring goals and winning games and cups with us before trucking on down the road.
Chelsea wanted him last January.

He will go to one of the top 6 down there.

Folk were selling him 3 weeks after his debut. Pretty poor tbh.

We'll have sold the next signing before he kicks a ball for us at that rate.

His start wasn't great, so I'm not sure about that.

We're a selling club now, and that is a downer. However I don't think it's unreasonable to talk about potential fees given that they're vitally important to the quality of the playing staff in the future. What's utter pish, is folk telling people which Celtic-related areas they are allowed to talk about and which they shouldn't; pinning labels on them and telling them to "get tae eff" is wide, and are the actions of a weapon.

There's talk of Batshuayi going to Monaco as part of a deal for Lemar, Chelsea might be looking another striker this window.

It's tedious. Players go from being utter pish to 10million/20 million/lucky to get 3 million at this rate within the space of games.

When Tierney signed a new 6 year deal, some people's immediate reaction is to talk about how much it would now take to prise him away.

Inevitably, some players will leave. Some use us as a stepping stone. Nobody is under any illusions about that and, when that situation is upon us, then it's normal to talk about what we'll get because you would assume we'd be then looking to bring new players in.

What doesn't seem normal, to me anyway, is to be fixated on transfer values as soon as a player puts a run of three games together. Then they go from the knee jerk 'pish, punt, the new Amido' to 'he'll be off as soon as an EPL club flashes its hairy wad at him.'

Seems to be something of a fixation for a lot of people. I don't think anyone is saying transfers should never be mentioned though. I'm only interested in who's coming in though and like a lot of people couldn’t give a flying eff who someone signs for or what happens once they leave Celtic (Larsson being probably a notable exception, although I'd have preferred him to finish his career with us).

Some people are still apparently bothered that Paul McStay 'didn't fulfil his potential' by playing in England or Italy. If the likes of Kieran Tierney does the same, that would mean more to Celtic than any 10/20/30 million quid.
