Celtic boss Brendan Rogers admits Moussa Dembele has a long way to go before he scales the heights of Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

But the Northern Irishman insists the Hoops hitman possesses the sufficient amount of arrogance to believe he belongs on the same pitch as the Polish superstar.

Dembele announced himself in spectacular style on the Champions League stage last season when he bagged a brace in the thrilling 3-3 draw with Manchester City at Celtic Park.

Rodgers men are in Champions League Group B action once again at Parkhead tomorrow night as they go toe-to-toe with the Bundesliga heavyweights on Matchday Four less than two weeks after a 3-0 mauling in the Allianz Arena.

However Rodgers is convinced that Demeble can have a big bearing on the outcome of this match just as he did against City because he is a big game player.

Rodgers said: “Moussa has a long way to go before he reaches the levels of Robert Lewandowski.

“Lewandowski’s been doing it consistently for a few years now at the highest level.

“Moussa’s at the beginning of his career at this level.

“Moussa showed last year that when he’s fit he’s got that capability to play at that level and that’s all you want.

“Now it’s the case of over the next few years consistently showing that he can do that.

“Moussa was great for us in the Manchester City game. He was a fantastic reference point for the team.

“He’s got that big game mentality.

‘“You also saw it the other night, how he was in domestic match against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

“He’s a big game player and the juices flow.

“Big-game players have a belief.

“For some players things like that can be a blur, but for Moussa he believes.

“He has that nice charisma and arrogance for the level.

“You need that level of arrogance – it’s half the battle.

“At this level you know because there’s lots of talent, but you have to believe.

"For some players that play at Champions League level and I’ve worked with players that are big, big talents but they’re not as good as another player, with less talent because the other guy’s got the mentality.

“Of course, you need a lot of physical, technical and tactical attributes for that level but what’s between your ears is vital.

“We’re always up against it of course at this level but you always have to try to find a way.

“You can never dent our enthusiasm and ambition going into these games that we want to do well in.

“The challenge this year is to be in Europe after Christmas and that’s what we hopefully can do.

“It’s going to be a brilliant evening and great for the Celtic supporters again to see a team of that quality at Celtic Park.”

Tonight is his night. He's ripping Bayern to pieces and every big club in Europe will be sniffing about him tomorrow morning.

Apparently 17 Clubs so far have asked for tickets for their Scouting Staff for this game.

Can’t wait to see the Dembele brothers lining up beside each other in the future.
Yip, him & Karamoko in the same Celtic team (in years to come) will do me

Threatening in the first half but never looked like scoring all night. Pulled the defence around and created some space but still a wee bit raw.

If 17 scouts came to watch MD and KT, then we have to be glad that KT just signed a 6 year contract!

No he didn't. He had a few flashes but didn't cause a lot of problems.

I thought he played really well & created a lot of space for us. I tend to look at the positives though.

Thought he was as excellent first half and seemed to tire in the second.

Good one.

Dembele had a great first half and a poor second - to be expected from a guy who's still finding his fitness.
