I guess the concern is that there a number of clubs down south and in Europe with money to burn and the need for a centre forward. Dembele's name is bound to come up in discussions. Everton are about to pocket the best part of £80 million for Lukaku. If they decided to make Dembele their top target to replace him, there's no doubt they would be capable of making an incredible bid.

And they will make an incredible bid next season too, when they have a chance of signing him.

Which we, incredibly, are capable of rejecting.

Within reason. I'd be astonished if we're going to turn down £30m for a player we signed for under £1m a year ago.

I agree the bid would be hard to turn down but it's more a case of showing Rodgers we are serious about trying to build a team and having a go at the group stages this year. If we sold him after one season Rodgers wouldn't be happy.

If we earn a minimum£30m in CL, then he can help us earn that amount whilst building his/our profile & we'll sell him for that anyway, when we're ready to sell.
I hope.

Don't understand odds - what does this mean?
Put £2 on him joining Everton and you lose £2

Maybe prepare to be astonished?

A lot of folk would have been astonished to get £20m for Van Dijk, and yet he'll go for three times that now.

We're not desperate and we don't need to accept being squeezed for a player whose valuation is going to rocket.

He'll go for 3 times that now after 2 seasons in the premiership. He wouldn't have went for £60m from us.

It's up to the player, though, isn't it?

And the vibe around him is that he's happy to stay here for the coming season

Until he breaks into the full France squad and has another good champions league run i think the 30 or 40m quotes are a bit far fetched, he is a young guy playing in Scotland and until he does it on the top stage 40m is not going to happen, my gut feeling is if a club offered us around 25m the board would buckle, he needs to have a very good season on all levels for us to get near the 40m mark.

I await the abuse!

There are players who haven't been near a CL game changing hands for £30m plus on a regular basis. The Scottish league thing obviously goes against us but having two solid CL campaigns on your CV isn't mandatory if you want to demand more than £20m for a player.

30 million quid for the French U-21 striker, built like a brick shampoohouse, pacy, aggressive with a sharpshooters eye for goal?

There's at least four teams that would be and are willing to shell that out regardless of CL experience. Everybody wants the next Drogba. He's as good a template for that kind of player as I've seen in recent years. The market is definitely getting aimed at young players, particularly after that Monaco run and what Ajax are producing. When you mix in who our manager is, his experience with identifying and nurturing young talent, the money clubs are listening intently.
