It's probably to wind up the press with their constant stories about him leaving. They'll get all worked up and then he'll announce something relatively daft.

I think he will end up at Southampton, they will sell VVD, and use the cash to sign Dembele.
I'm sure he won't and they won't.

When he does leave us, which hopefully won't be for a season or 2 at least, it'll be someone far bigger than Southampton !

My guess is a boot deal. NB would be mental not to jump on him at this stage of his career.

EVERTON are ready to smash their £30million transfer record to land Moussa Dembele as a direct replacement for Romelu Lukaku.

The big-spending Goodison Park outfit shelled out £25m plus £5m add-ons for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford last week.

But, boss Ronald Koeman, who also spent £24m on Dutch international Davy Klaassen, is ready to cough up even more to get Dembele on board.

With Lukaku set to join either Chelsea or Man United in a deal worth upwards of £80m Everton will have the funds to compete with a host of top European clubs chasing the 20-year-old Hoops hitman.

Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan have all expressed an interest in the French Under 21 international.

However, Koeman is hoping the lure of regular first team football on Merseyside will help give them an edge during any potential talks.

Celtic would prefer to keep Dembele in Scotland for at least another season although they would find it almost impossible to turn down £30m given they paid Fulham just £400,000 for the player 12 months ago.

Last summer Dembele’s agent and mentor, Momadi Fofana, persuaded him to move north when there were a number of more lucrative offers on the table.

Fofana has a firm belief in helping his client develop as a footballer rather than take the biggest cheque dangled in front of them.

As Celtic have made it clear they want £40 million, why would they accept £30 million before a bidding war heats up?

Much like legality and human decency, logic isn't the Sun's game.

There is nothing in this article about Everton bidding for Dembele.
They have signed Ramirez, Klassen, Pickford and are, according to this article, interested in signing Michael Keane (Burnley),M’Baye Niang (Watford) and Gylifi Sigurdsson (Swansea) who they are expected to break their record transfer fee and buy him for £35 million.

Everton sign striker Sandro Ramirez from Malaga as Ronald Koeman continues spending spree

It had appeared earlier this summer that Ramirez would end up at Atletico Madrid but their subsequent transfer embargo opened the door for Everton to pounce and activate the £5.2million release clause in his contract.

FWIW I doubt we'll sell Dembele this summer his time for a move will be this time next year after another Champions league campaign and season under Rodgers.

There won't be bidding war at 30m imho

The top 6 EPL sides will view him as unproven and a backup - he isn't even a full international. The rest of the sides other than Everton won't have that kind of money.
