FULHAM coach and former Celtic idol Peter Grant believes striker Moussa Dembele will have to improve his finishing if he wants to establish himself as a Parkhead star. But Grant - 365 games for his childhood heroes between 1982-97 - is convinced Brendan Rodgers can turn the highly rated 19-year-old into a feared hitman. France under-20 starlet Dembele hit 17 goals for Fulham in the Championship last season and has become Rodgers' first signing after deciding to quit Craven Cottage with his contract expiring today. Celtic are paying just a £500,000 compensation fee for a talent of big potential who was also courted by the likes of first club Paris Saint Germain, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Spurs. And Grant - who worked with the youngster over the last two years - told SunSport Online: "Moussa's a great boy and I'm delighted for him to get the chance to sign for a club like Celtic. "Everyone knows what Celtic means to me - and I'd love to see Moussa be a massive success. "He did well for us in the Championship last season, scoring 17 goals in total, and that underlined his potential. "Moussa's got pace and power. But he's still raw and he has to work on being consistent with his finishing. "I'm not being negative about Moussa, it's just a fact. But he's only 19 and I'm certain he'll continue to improve under the coaching of Brendan Rodgers and his backroom staff. "They will also develop his game intelligence. "Moussa at the moment is probably averaging a goal with every six chances and I told him often enough he has to work on improving that ratio. "He's definitely got it in him to do so. "Moussa's got a great attitude. He works hard and is eager to learn and a manager of the calibre of Brendan will, I'm sure, bring the best out of him. "It's a fantastic opportunity for the boy. "Celtic have a history of brilliant strikers, guys who were prolific - in my time alone there were the likes of Frank McAvennie, Andy Walker, Charlie Nicholas, Mo Johnston, Brian McClair. "Now they've got Leigh Griffiths and his 40-goal return last season was phenomenal. "That's the standard Moussa's got to aim for. "He's a very ambitious lad - and he should take great confidence from the fact that Brendan Rodgers has made him his first signing as Celtic manager. "That's a huge show of faith in Moussa." Grant feels another factor that can make Dembele a Hoops success is the presence in the Celtic squad of ex-Fulham team-mate Patrick Roberts. He added: "Patrick and Moussa were dynamite together with the youths here. They absolutely ripped it up, forming a brilliant understanding, scoring goals and teeing each other up. "They were also good pals. "Patrick will help Moussa settle into Glasgow - and I'd be thrilled if they were to deliver for Celtic on the park." http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/7206125/Peter-Grant-warns-Moussa-Dembele-to-sharpen-up-if-he-wants-to-become-a-Celtic-great.html?CMP=spklr-_-Editorial-_-TWITTER-_-scotsunsport-_-20160629-_-SunScotSport-_-505626214
Who's idol was Peter Grant? He might have not been a great player, but a least he gave everything for the jersey, unlike the many wasters we've seen since he left

I thought that we would attract quality players here with BR as the new man in charge. I hoped he would be allowed to sign players himself and not be pushed around like Ronny was.
This signing doesn`t make me happy at all. Dembele aint the man to shoot us into the Champions League again. A friend of mine is a Fulham supporter and i asked him what he feels about this and how he rates him as a player.
He said: There is a reason why he didn`t end up in a big club in a big league. If he is SUCH A BIG talent why did no one else sign when he was out of contract? Wouldn`t cost Tottenham more than 1 weeks wage for a average player in their team to sign him
The kid has potential but unfortunately he`s got a ego that is bigger than the talent. Very frustrating player to watch because if he aint having the day he is barely working for the team. He went 11 games without scoring in 14/15 and last season he had 13 games in a row without goals where he was completely uninterested in contributing to the team. 17 goals is good and makes many think of him as a bargain but look behind the numbers and see what we get against because of his attitude and he aint worth more than a striker who scores 9-10 goals. Football is a two way game. If Cauley (Woodrow) looses the ball he works like a champ and break up the counter attack. Moussa just throws his arms out and walk back to the offside line. Learn the kid that he aint more important than the team and he could be a very good player in Scotland.
Seems we got a very raw talent here guys. Hopefully we can make something out of him but i would prefer a striker who has experience and can handle the pressure. In a CL playoff we need those who are on 100% for 90 minutes. Not just the 13min they are working for themselfes. Hope i am wrong but not what i expected from BR.

Seaon 14/15 was his first in the first team - wouldn't expect any more than what he scored.
Last season his dip in form was amidst all the transfer speculation - most players will get distracted by this, even more true for a 19 year old.
We know he isn't the finished article, he knows he isn't the finished article.
Brendan got the best out of Raheem Sterling, Suarez (up until that point at least), Henderson and a good few other young players.
Of course we want another more experienced striker (Sinclair?) and we already have a reliable one in Leigh.
Other big clubs were after him, he opted for a first team place over the bench or reserves elsewhere.
A positive first signing. No one is saying he'll win the Ballon D'Or, but he's already a significantly more positive recruitment than 90% of the strikers bought over the last few years.

He was signing for Spurs until Fulham demanded he stayed with them until the end of the season.
I think your mate is being bitter.

He would have cost an English team millions.

fulham must have some wage bill given it would cost tottenham at least 5+ million in compensation for him
maybe even more than the 6m they agreed looking at watford needing to pay 4m for jerome sinclair compensation and he has barely played at all

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep Celtic idol Peter Grant believes striker Moussa Dembele will have to improve his finishing if he wants to establish himself as a Parkhead star.
He was a shampooebag and the epitome of plastic-hardman.
I never said he was a hardman, just that he gave everything he had (however limited he was). How good would say Ki have been if had grants attitude? Apart from early form under Davie Hay, and his undoubted purple patch during the centenary season, Grant was absolute gash
edit to add: just realised this was the Dembele thread
