No one is saying he can't. Certainly not me but if a club wants to cash in on a player 99% of the time they will. And we will. It's just a matter of when.

Here we have our greatest ever asset and people think he will be walking away in 4 years for heehaw? Aye ok.

You said that he can't. :ponder: You literally said that he won't be allowed to run his contract down.

He can run his contract down if he wants to.
Because if the club receives an offer of the size quoted, accepts it, and he goes to a major club elsewhere, with the big probability of increasing his wages substantially, he's really going to choose to run down his contract.

The chances of Dembele being here beyond the summer let alone four years are, let's face it, practically nil. A major club will come in for him, the club will accept the offer if it's right and Dembele will leave with our good wishes.

Why are they practically nil?

He'll still be here next year, it'll be the following summer at the earliest he leaves.

Pish. We qualify for the group stages, he'll still be here.

I didn't say what he would do, what the club would do, or what I thought was likely.

When the poster said the club wouldn't allow him to run down his contract, I replied that the club couldn't actually stop him from doing that.

Yeah, I'm expecting him to be here until summer 2018 at least. His agent said as much I'm sure.

Nobody would grudge him a move at that point, and if he's mental enough to sign an extension and then leave in 2019 all the merrier. I think we'd have to promise him a cut of the transfer fee to be able to afford/attract him for 3 years though.

In my completely worthless opinion, the length of time Dembele stays will probably be heavily dependent on our European performance. If we make the group stages and none of the 'giants' come in for him I can see him being more than happy to put himself on that stage once more with us and then re-evaluate after the group stage. If we've got no post Christmas Champions League he'll probably be off in January. On the other hand if we can squeeze through the groups then who knows.

If he's in the main France squad and in the CL, I think he'll be more than happy to hang around here for another season or two.

I hope he does stay for 4 years. Couldn't give a toss about the money, if we get to keep Moussa for another three seasons.

Agreed provided we're still in a position to offer him CL football.

Edit sorry didn't read your post properly and noticed you already mentioned CL

France play Luxembourg and Sweden away in the next qualifiers. I think he could get a call-up and a sub appearance in the first game at least.

Moussa has now sampled the CP CL atmosphere. City at home must have been the highlight of his footballing life so far. The fact guys like Gundogan are still thinking about that night, then for a moment, put yourself in Moussa's shoes.

He's clearly not motivated by money as he knows he's going to earn massively in his career but as we all know there's no atmosphere in Europe that can match us on a CL night. It truly is unique and I think with the big man having already sampled those type of evenings then it won't be as easy for him to walk away as some believe.

If we continue to regularly qualify for the CL and we start to compete again, he becomes a France regular then there's no rush for him to move. He's an absolute hero to all of us and he knows it.

He speaks highly of the club, clearly doesn't have an ego and now knows, he's at a sleeping giant, which with his help is about to wake up

I think he'll be here for at least another season, possibly more. I don't think his next destination will be the EPL.

Haven't seen it but to be fair if I was earning 30k per week I wouldn't be driving a rustbucket either.

There's time yet for him to do a Gary Neville and his take his mountain bike to training

Improve his current contract for another 4 years and guarantee he is with us next season, his value will only go up as he gets better and better
