The circumstances of a (rumoured) £30m+ bid from one of the genuine big guns probably makes it a unique situation and not comparable to other window deadline days, but the club don't have form for selling major playing assets (First XI starting certainties) a matter of hours before the closing of a transfer window, presumably without being able to finalise an alternative.

I honestly don't believe that's how the club does its business. Yes, we don't get such bids every window, but there's arguably a credibility test for the club in ensuring the player stays for at least one full season.

In showing a bit of mettle, maybe you tell the Top 6 in England that our assets go on our terms and at our price. Our terms should never include a player six months into his Celtic career. As a fan, I want to watch him for as long as I can, a bit like Henrik, Lubo and a few others.

Very few will deny Chelsea not just once but twice, if the truth is to be believed. It's not as if the demand won't be there come July or August, or that his talent is going to take a dive any time soon. The lad is 20 FFS.

This does not need to be the high point of his perceived market value.

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
Keep him and fail to qualify for CL and there goes the 30m plus another 30m (transfer fee).

Why wouldn't we get any offers for him at the end of the summer window?
Why would we not qualify for the CL without him?

40m is fanciful, he will go eventually for 25m plus and add ons, still think he has at least a year with us yet..

I'm pretty certain he isn't being sold today.

Thanks.

I think he will be going today £30m plus add ons, loan back to end of season.

The coincidence of the knee scan tips the balance of probabilities for me.

If, of course, he is in London for a knee scan...(!)

The thing I can't get my head around is why he would need to go to London for a scan on his knee.

Is it possible Chelsea want to know extent of injury before placing a bid? Probably not but just throwing ideas out there.

We regularly send players to London to see specialists with injuries.

I don't think Dembele himself would want to go at the moment unless guaranteed first team football and to be playing in the CL next year. He clearly came to us to learn and develop and he will get that for the next year to 18months - both first team football and the CL. If he was 25 years old the story would be very different but he's 20. In the summer next year it may well be mission accomplished for him and he can move on safe in the knowledge he got a very good 2 years from us and is a much better player for it. If he moves to the likes of Chelsea he runs the risk of his career trajectory stalling a little as he'll be on the bench.

Doubtless scanning his knee in the boardroom at Stamford Bridge.

We couldn't knock back 35m+ obviously

I'm positive I read that Rodgers said he was 50/50 for tomorrow night and if not he'd make the weekend.

If he did say this - then why would he say it before Dembele seen a specialist? :suspect:

He's not going to London just for the scan. If he's going there to have his knee seen to, it's to talk with the specialist, have it physically examined and then perhaps scanned.

Is it potentially a long term injury then? :o

Redknapp saying Chelski might try to arrange first-refusal on him rather than signing him this window.

How much might that be worth to us ? And assuming no Redknapp involvement which would quintuple the fee....
It was Jamie btw.

I'm not sure - I'm guessing a few million tops?
