Related question....but slightly "askew"

Lets say Dembele goes for £35 million.

Realistically, aside from needing to replace Dembele, how many players and in what positions do you think the current team would need, to really compete to get to last 16 of CL.

What's the minimum price we would have to pay for that kind of impact, slots right in, hits the ground running, type of player.

What would be the minimum weekly wage for such players, say over a 3 year contract.
Another striker, a central defender, a central midfielder and possibly a right winger. £4-5m each. £25k+ wages each.

There is a few right wingers on the US politics thread that we could keep for free
Aye but how do you choose which one gets to play? Do you use a spreadsheet or do the ones that played last time get first refusal?

Quoting limited to 3 levels deep
We have a great season with CL group stage dosh banked and if in addition we sell our most valuable asset for mega, mega dosh in terms of our financial base you expect Rodgers will be lucky to get £6m to improve the squad?

Do you want a kds charity bet that if Dembele is sold we spend more than £6m?
If we sell Dembele now then fail to qualify next season due to not having replaced him then there goes the 30m.

We also need to fathom in the money we've spent on wages for Toure, Dembele and Sinclair this season.

Not convinced we will reinvest that money in the squad.

And going by BR's demeanour in terms of his comments on our transfer activity this month reading between the lines he feels let down which doesn't fill me with optimism that our board will reinvest in the top quality we need to keep making progress.

We will discuss the charity bet if it does happen

I hope Dembele stays - I don't want the money

Going off on tangents and trying to qualify your statement.

Most of us can see the best scenario would be to keep Dembele - Get the CL group stages next season and the dosh therefrom and if we have to sell him then sell in Summer 2018 but that is not what you said in your initial post.

So your £6m comment - Sticking by it?

High chance Chelsea would be looking to loan him out if they were to sign him just now. I see no reason why we wouldn't consider a deal worth £30million+ if he was loaned back to us for 18 months.

Pretty much feel the same. Chelski seem to be making noises much the same.

Its just occurred to me that I doubt Chelsea will be doing anything further till they hear the outcome of this knee scan.

Curious also that given Dembele didn't play on Sunday due to this knee injury, that Brendan didn't send him down to London yesterday. Aye, he might not have been able to get an appointment till today, but unlike the zombies who don't have a pot to piss in and have tae queue in the Southern A & E :lolhuns: I'm guessing the kind of specialist's we can afford, are available at short notice.

Has Brendan maybe been rather shrewd here :hmmm:

Hope the appointments at 1 minute tae midnight. :bawman:

Can anyone identify these 6 x £5m players that we could get from Dembele sale who would improve the team and (crucially) come to Celtic? Get a grip! Snodgrass went for £10m and he is nothing to write home about. There are dozens of other examples - Andros Townsend anyone? Calum Wilson (who ruptured his anterior crucuate) is now being touted as a £20m player!!! It isn't much different in the EFL or abroad - you're deluded if you think otherwise.

Someone mentioned Joe Allen - he went for £13m and will be earning in excess of £40k per week plus bonuses. That'd be at least £21m thrown away in four years on one player!

I mentioned elsewhere that a former EPL director is saying that Dembele could easily go for £50m plus next year. It'd be stupid to cash in now. We have to stick to the model of developing raw and under-valued talent to extract maximum value - there is no way Dembele has reached maximum value.
If this had been last year you would have been throwing Scott Sinclair on that list of players as an example of how money doesn't get you much.

There is no value for money in England, we shouldn't be using that as the place we do most of our shopping.
